What's the story with HAK?

I heard there was some controversy regarding change of owners. Has the quality/service been affected?

Any threads on this?

Thanks

I ordered two of their utility models at the start of October and received them about four weeks later. (They had to get to Canada, so that might have slowed things down a little.) I got a bit nervous at one point, called and talked to a guy named William. He was friendly and helpful.

Whatever service problems they had in the past seem to have been resolved.

(Now, whether or not the kind of small, dull knives were worth the cost and wait was another story...)

Hope that helps.

Welcome to Bladeforums!

I think who is making them now might be the issue not William, I had splendid dealings with him back when you all were very much into them.

I think if you keep in constant contact you will be okay now.

A buddy of mine recieved a couple of utility HAK's without any drama . The problems seem to be in connection with some of the customs .

Wilbur - I'm glad that you received yours, though like many you seem to have found the Cost VS Quality a bit skewed. Whether HAK has finally gotten straight is yet to be seen.

- you might be remembering this thread - http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=487359&highlight=hideaway&page=5

There were still communication issues being noted by several Buyers (one of which posted in June to the above thread, 20Nickels.

Another Poster in this thread - http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=551913 had comm issues. And one Poster replied that he ordered an extra sheath which was expected to delay his shipment for 6+ weeks.

So continue to do your homework and decide with your wallet.

I was one of the ones haunting the older threads for a long while. Ordered mine in April, got it in July or so, but was enlightened about how busy this little operation was. I ordered mine right when he was swamped with trying to standardize the Utility ordering system, he was working the bugs out as I waited. Extremely nice guy to talk to, I actually got interested in how his business was coming together. I'm assured the process would go much faster nowadays if you order a Utility, they have them in stock almost every size now, but I'd still order early just to be safe.
...As for the product, I'm too busy enjoying it to complain about the wait. Came sharp, with the usual gift extras, and simply an awesome little design. I'm planning on ordering another one.

I bought a couple a year or so ago. Wait time was about 2 weeks each. Fantastic little package that was well executed. It came with a lot of extra goodies. My experience was fine, I'm not sure if anything has changed. Good luck
