I picked this up today at a gun and tool auction. It went pretty cheap so I picked it up, cause Id never seen one like this before anyone know anything about it? Thanks - Joel

That looks like an early 111 classic, if it is it would have come in a tooled leather sheath. Good score! Someone with more knowledge should be along shortly. HL

That's the first Buck I ever owned. They came out in 1981 and I was given one by my Mother in Law for my Birthday. Buck later came out with the Classic II, III and IV which were the same thing based on the 500 slimline series. Below is from a 1989 BCCI newsletter.

"Classic 111- The original engraved aluminum handle, based on the 110 blade. Very early versions have a bright banner & 3 dot tang stamp. Later ones have a matte background banner, 4 dot stamp, discontinued in 1986."

Very classy looking knives, but beware. The aluminum handles are pretty soft and scratch and mar up easily.

Here's mine, it has a mirror polished, 4 dot blade. Is yours polished or satin finish? It looks satin in the pictures.

I picked one of these from a fellow forumite a while back. The sheath is handsome and this version is very light. I am hanging on to it and will give it as a fine gift when the right occassion presents itself. I believe they made this type in some other models too...good pick up

Thanks a ton you buck fellas for all the help. Ive been collecting bucks more and more lately and this just kinda pushed me over the edge.. And this one will look GREAT on display! thanks again- Joel

I think that's actually where they belong, in a display. I have all the versions like new and also one of the smaller ones that was used and carried by it's prevous owner. It got pretty shabby looking just from being carried around in a pocket with change and keys.

Both fine looking knives. Really like that shiny blade, Dave.

Thanks. About a year and a half ago, that was the only Buck I owned. I came here to ask about when it was made and the rest is history. Got really hooked on Bucks and this forum.

Mine is a three dot Im thinking its satin. Talk about a hard knife to get a good photo of< LOL these are pretty shiny and hard to shoot!! I cant believe how light they are, it looks like it weighs 10 pounds looking at it then ya pick it up and its a feather! cool knives!- JOel

I had a 111 while I was in college and several people remarked about it being a nice knife. However I found that when carried in your pocket, with keys or change, the handle seemed to ding up pretty fast.
