I'm checking out getting an Izula, and I notice that some of them are sold with the "survival" kit, but I'm really not sure what any of the stuff is, but from the pictures it seems like the lanyard needed to make it a neck-knife isn't included when just purchasing the knife with the sheath.

So, what's all the stuff in the survival kit for? Worth it?

Also, are the micarta handles available in different colors anywhere?

You have the option to buy just the knife and sheath, or the knife with the kit.

Complete Izula kit includes: Ambidextrous Sheath, MOLLE lock, Paracord (for cord wrapping handle or use as a lanyard), cord lock, Snap (for snapping system on to outdoor gear), Split Ring, Fire Flint, Whistle, and Instruction Sheet.

I bought just the knife and the sheath. i have tons of paracord and didn't need the ferrocerium rod. However if i had bought the kit it would have saved me some purchases when i built my HEST kit.

The handle slabs only come in one color but you can dye them with clothing dye. however mine have darkened over time just from use.

Except that the Izula Kit has two split rings, two different sizes, for making a trap trigger. The illustration for the trap trigger should be on the instruction sheet as well. :)

I was getting an Izula anyways, so I sprung the extra few dollars for the kit. That stuff is small enough to fit in the small PSK I'm working on, so it was worth it to me.

If you already have some paracord (most of us seem to), and a survival kit you like, then you can just order the knife and save the extra few dollars.

The kit also has Catherine Zeta Jones' phone number in it.:)

Oh, man, I'm sold. I still remember "Entrapment". :p

Yeah, anyway, I think I'll spring a few extra dollars and get the one with the survival kit and see how I like it without the handles before ordering those.

One MOLLE lock is included and it will bolt directly to the cheat so you can fasten it to webbing in a few different positions..

Well, actually I was talking about in general (thus the unintended plural), I've never seen a MOLLE lock before, so I'm not realy sure how it's supposed to fasten to stuff. Everything I've read just says something vauge like, "Can be used to attach to other gear."

Is it like a universal clip, or does it work with specific gear?

They are small plastic clips that are mostly designed for attaching stuff to webbing. Thicker belts don't work well with this clip. You can see them at our web site www.eseeknives.com under optional sheaths and gear. So it is a two piece affair hinged in the middle. One piece has holes for bolting it to your sheath. The other piece slips around the webbing you want to attach it to and then locks back to the other piece. It is fairly obvious once you see one in your hand.
