I was talking with a fellow knifemaker and he is going make a hammer head out of damascus to do silver wite inlay. We got to talking about the weirdest thing that we have seen or heard about being made out of damascus. I said it was a damascus potato peeler. He said dice for playing D/D. I made a damascus butter knife last week forged to shape out of scrap.

What's the weirdest thing you have seen or heard of?
Thanks,
Chuck

a 10 speed boke frame & handle bars made from tube purcgased from damasteel. And also a slide of a modle 1911 45 cal pistol( I want one)

Mine isn't as weird as some out there, but my wife got me a damascus "worry stone" for valentine's day last year. Its made from Jim Ferguson raindrop damascus and is ground to a octagon shape with beveled edges, 1/4" thick. I keep it in my pocket and it gives me something to play with when meetings drag on too long. I pull it out and fiddle with it. I've noticed it attracts less attention than flicking my Spyderco open and closed!

I had to take a closer look...it was a true work of art! (As was the IUD) ;)

I haven't seen a lot of wierd stuff but some of the odd stuff I've done would be a bell, a set of levers, primary inspection covers and air filter cover for a motor bike, and numerous firearms parts. Have plans of making a lot of other stuff but don't get any time nowdays.

A set of blacksmith's tongs. With a roller bearing pivot. With a zerc fitting for super-high-temp grease. It was in one of the ABANA magazines a few years ago.

Maybe it's not "weird", but my wedding band is stainless damascus. Terry Kraning made it for me. I thought it was fitting for a knifemaker.

I hate to be nosey, how much does a ring like that run, ballpark? I have seen the ones made from sterling, white gold and platinum before but they were insanely high priced. Sure would like to have one though.

They start at $100. My wife got one for me as a birthday present. It fits nice and is pretty much indestructible. Let me put it this way - if anything hits hard enough to dent it, the ring will be the least of your worries! You might consider having him make the ring one size larger than normal and then having a jeweler make a gold lining and rims for it. You can contact Terry at terrykranning@juno.com. He's a really nice guy and a pleasure to deal with. If you contact him, tell him I said hello.

They were made from some sort of SS damascus and apparently the guy bought them because he wanted to use them as Kubotan or tie them together as a set of micro-nunchucks. They were pretty heavy too. Jason.
