I was pretty impressed by the second generation Byrd knives. There were some big design improvements--I especially liked the super cool bi-directional pattern for their FRN scales. In my opinion, the Byrd Cara Cara 2 is one of the best deals around.

So, what's next? Anyone know what's on the horizon for the Byrd line?

I agree, the 2nd gen Byrds are much improved. I've carried a Delica for years so I have more experience with the Meadowlark 2. The improved clip and handle so it slides on and off a pocket easier is a much welcome improvement. I like the blade profile better as well.

Value for the price, they're hard to beat.

I like Byrds. They were my entry to Spyderco, and i basically figured, if their $20-30 Chinese line is this good...WOW.

My first one was a serrated G10 Crossbill. I liked it so much i wanted the plain edge version too. But then they discontinued the G10 Crossbills :( I just found a RAT forumite wanting to trade his though :)

I've got a Cara Cara 2 also and it is really really nice.

Anyway. I think it would be nice if they offered some with different lock types since they are currently almost all lockbacks, with only a couple linerlocks. Or for that matter a few Byrd slipjoints wouldn't be bad either.

I agree! A few slip-joints would be great! Maybe Byrd ought to launch a bunch of colours for their FRN scales also. I'd buy 'em!

I've always thought some kind of fixed blade neck knife would be a great addition to the byrd line

As often as not, a Byrd will be in my pocket. They are well made, well finished and take a fine edge. I was fortunate to collect most of the old lineup, along with some duplicates, and I am looking forward to collecting all of the new models as well. It is not like I don't have some CF Militaries, Benchmades and Emersons to choose from, it is just that the Byrds feel so good in hand and are easy to keep hair popping sharp.

Nice, APF! Any chance we could see a few pix of your flock?
