It is not a copy. As far as I know, they've been making the "SAS" parang for some time now. It is still listed on Sheffield's website. I believe they are British military issue.
From what I've heard they ARE British military, but I may have heard wrong. That being said they've been around for a pretty good long while. Reports seem to say that they chop pretty well but the handle causes hotspots with extended use thanks to the big ol' ribs on it. Never played with one myself but based on the look of the thing my gut tells me they're right.
