Whats this leather loop for

Some guys have a muffin top and a high riding sheath gets uncomfortable and hard to get to. So a dangler loop lets it hang lower to better accommodate the knife.

This completely explains the uber-tactical drop-leg holsters I see so many out-of-shape cops sporting. I thought they were just larping as S.W.A.T team members. 🤣🤣🤣

It allows the sheath to move with the leg. Verses the sheath pointing down as you squat or bend down with no movement fore or aft. The sheath stays inline with the leg when tied to the leg. That particular sheath doesn't have the lanyard. So it allows it to swing out the way.

I saw an armored truck guy wearing his pistol way down near his knee. I figured that might be a good place for it if he needed the gun while sitting in the truck, so I spared him my Shane act.
But, yeah, the BPS dangler attaches to a loop big enough to use as a belt loop.

........it's a dangler. In UK and other places, it is essential to allow the wearing of a knife that moves with clothing and movement.

Some of these sheaths, with a dangler, also have it on a clip so can be removed and the sheath worn 'conventionally' direct on the belt

In the case of the BPS knives, the dangler is attached to a standard belt loop, so if you're using the latter, the dangler just tucks away behind the sheath (or can be removed)

Sorry for the ignorant question, but what is the extra leather loop for on BPS leather sheaths?

They are also traditional with many cultures that wear long tunics or outer garments. Scandinavians, Sami, and Finns, commonly. Danglers are also seen in Inuit cultures. I like them as I can resheath a knife under a jacket more easily when working outdoors with horses (which is my usual environment).
