I got an order for a doctor's knife a while back and decided to give it a try. Well I expected to run into some new stuff knife making wise, but I had no idea how different a slip joint folder was from the liner locks I've been making.

Well after much to do, I finished two of them. I really like the way they turned out. Many thanks to Huffman, Davis and Shadley for shortening the learning curve.

The blades, spatulas, and back-springs are ATS-34, and the integral frames are milled from 416 stainless steel. The handle scales are interior cut mammoth ivory. The blades are satin finished to 600 grit and the handles are hand rubbed to 2500 grit resulting in a nice polish.

The photo was shot by Terrill Hoffman at the SouthEastern Custom Knife Show this past weekend. Nice One!

Let me know what you think.

Nice clean traditional lines, I like! Now go and make a few with some sambar stag and you will have a winner in my book!

I like the way they turned out too. This has become one of my favorite slipjoint patterns and these are two very nice examples.

Andrew, Take it from me, I collect those suckers. Nice job on the integral frames. I know they present a few challenges different from liner locks. Looks like you had some great advisors :D and that you did a great job.

Hope that you are willing to give them a shot again :D.

Very nice Andrew. I think you got it down.

Also, glad I could provide you a little help. Kind of my way to repay all those who helped me and still do help. :D

Regards

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm planning on making more slip joints as soon as I finish up things that got pushed back while I learned to make these. The next two projects are fixed blades. Now let me see if I can remember how they work. :D

Yes.., both look very well done. I do like to see those old style slip joints now and then. Those are great....

looked at your site, nice, did not see many prices? Looks good! Paul

I also collect Dr patterns.They look great.Let us know(Bastid & I when you make some more):D
Randy

Thanks for the interest in this pattern. I like old time patterns and plan to do more. I particularly like the long slim lines of the doctor’s pattern. As with most things in my life, time runs the show.

Paul, I don't include prices on my site because materials make such a big difference in the final price of any of my knives. For example, I've used Ivory that cost me $35 or $40 and I've used some that cost $200+. I also have gone in so many directions its easier for me to say what something will cost once I reach the point of doing it. Let me know if anything interests you.
