What's up with the pivot on Vantage Pro?

I'm really interested in getting a Buck Vantage Pro ... but I've seen some adverse postings about it having too small of a pivot, making the action feel cheezy, and lockup on it being somewhat questionable ...
Anyone have first hand experience with this??

The lockup is rock solid. What do you mean by cheesy?. I found the action very smooth although I tightened it up a little when I tightened the pivot screw to center the blade. Now it just needs a slight wrist slap with the flipper to open. No problem as far as I'm concerned.

Where have you seen these postings? Could you link to them?

I've been carrying and darn near abusing my Vantage Pro for about 2 weeks. It opens smooth...locks up great.

mine came great out of the box. started with the select to test the style and then grabbed an avid and have had a pro now for a couple of weeks. always opens very smooth with no catch or resistance and locks up solid. none of mine vary on lockup whether opened slowly or with a real flick.

these are my favorite non belt models to carry.

I have the Avid and am very pleased with the action & lock up of the folder. I am most impressed with the shape of the handle & blade. A winner in my book.

Just got my Vantage Pro today and I was very disappointed. The blade is totally of center. It is way over to the right (opposite the liner lock) and the blade actually scrapes along side the liner when opening and closing....ouch  The blade was also dull IMO. I am sending it in to Buck to have it tweaked/replaced. It looks like I might have just gotten a dud. It is a shame because I was really looking forward to this one. Other then the blade being of center and the dull edge, I really liked the knife.

Best pics I could get with my cell phone.

Off center blade

Scratch on blade from rubbing on liner (not sure if it can be seen)

12Bravo, the blade is off center by design. All the ones that I've seen have blades to the right. Mine came shaving sharp though.

cotdt,

I have only seen one off center blade design, my CRKT edgie. I understand the function of that design i.e. in order to self sharpen. Is the Vantage really design that way? I understand maybe a bit off center but mine is scrapping against the liner and scuffing the blade. Can anyone else confirm this?

I would be willing to take mine apart and tinker with it but I really like this balde and do not want to void the warranty.

Anyone else have this problem?

That was a tongue in cheek comment. The small pivot and liner lock pushing against the blade makes it go to the right. Mine doesn't touch though, it shouldn't touch. You can take it apart and adjust the bushings to center it.

If that's true, then I've seen a whole bunch of them that need to go back to Buck. I've looked at many locally in stores and most had centered blades. What reference are you using for this info?

I was taking another look at my Vantage Pro today and noticed that the blade is over to the right due to the tension the liner lock is putting on the blade. The small pivot on the blade coupled with the tension of the liner lock pushing against the blade is what is making my blade rub on the liner. I tightened up the pivot a bit and it moved over the blade just enough for it not to rub. Might not need to send this one back.

The blade is set slightly off center. It shouldn't rub against the liner though. Mine came sharp and it locks tightly. Sounds like you got a defect there.

The spec is that the blade should not hit the sides. The best case scenario is that it rests smack in the middle on the handle of course and that is the shop's aim. Sometimes the fastener can get loose and as a result, the liner tension will push the blade to the oposite side. If you want to attempt a self repair, make sure you use loc tight on threads so they dont back out with use.
