I bought a Buck 110 gift set in the tin for $15.00 a few months ago. I notice they are selling for $18.00 to $24.00 on ebay but Buck 110's alone seem to be going for much more. Is there a difference in the ones in the gift set? If not I'm throwing away the tin and selling it alone.

I have 21 model 110s, 12 of which are the gift set tin can ones....I can not tell the difference......some dealers have stated they were made with a lesser steel, but they can't tell you what it is. I think they are the same as all the new 110s, but people may feel that they were "Walmart Specials" and therefore some how of lessor quality.....I think that is BS.....

The ones in the gift set come with a nylon sheath.:grumpy: Other than that they seem to be normal factory knives.:D

Wally World flooded the market after Christmas when they sold them for 10 Bucks a set.....haven't bought one yet but you can throw the tin my direction.

The Wal Mart 110 gift sets are the same as any other 110 you can buy, only difference is the sheath.

Watch out for shipping charges on those gift sets. Probably the only way any sellers are making any money on them.

Here is a shot of the sheath from the Walmart "gift set" compared to a regular sheath from the glass case. The gift set sheath is on top.

I bought new leather sheaths to go with each commemerative set to give as gifts. I just didn't like the ones that came with them.

I heard those sheaths were really weak... didn't realize they were that bad...

Thanks for the pic...

Keep the tin,,,, your grandchildren might collect Bucks some day.

I roamed around an antique mall for a few hours this morning. It is amazing all the things I used to have that are now antiques. :(

The difference is in the sheath. Buck does make a nylon sheath, but the quality of this particular nylon sheath in this case is really cheap. It was the one they were selling through "wally world" in the gift tin.

The 110 in this gift set, was perfectly fine ( I have one myself). It was the same buck quality.

The 110 from the tin is the exact same 110 as all the rest of them. The steel is the same, the wood and brass is the same. They are able to offer them at a lower cost for a variety of reasons, the sheath being one of them.
$10 ??!!! You could buy one for that price, then buy a leather sheath if you dont like the nylon, and still be ahead. That is an awesome price! Save the tin for your button collection or whatever. :)
This was one of my favorite Wal-mart projects. Although I too prefer the leather sheath, the tin is pretty cool and the price was great. Oh yeah, and it came with a Folding Hunter.

I never saw any Buck 110 gift sets at Wal-Mart:( Around here, the knife selection is bottom of the barrel, I guess. At that price I would have bought one! A while back, Dick's Sporting Goods was selling 110's in the clamshell for $29.99 on sale, and there was a $10 rebate available too. Unfortunately I missed that sale as well:(

I was able to pick up two of the Wal-Mart gift sets last year, but I have a third brother in law that is going to feel left out unless I can get a third (and not go onto ebay and pay a premium in shipping) Joe, do you have any idea as to whether Wal-Mart intends to do it again this coming Christmas?

My biggest personal problem with the tins is that it happened in the year of the IDAHO tang stamp. Will be a lot less collectable with so many of them out there.

Like I said, my personal problem....

Now, that is funny! Comes with a cool beer bottle opener and key chain for your truck keys...perfect for when ya gotta throw those beer bottles outta the passenger window ;)

I only have one tin canner thanks to a BuckBro. I was tempted to not open the shrinkwrap but I did. It is a beautiful knife. No blade play at all. Scales are beautiful. Blade seems like the dozen or so other 110 units I have.

Is that what you are taking to the PI Mike? That would knock their socks off.

I so feel the peer pressure to get a TIN..... :D :p

Wally here never did mark them down under $18 and change:o

I have one Wally World tin 110 still shrink-wrapped/unopened; I only want the knife, but haven't gotten around to even looking at it...I'll swap you for a good-condition 110 with any tang stamp...or maybe a 532??? :D
