Wow
You guys can gossip. I will say this if the company were for sale it wouldn’t be sold to Spyderco.
The reason no web presents is first a long deserved vacation then a lightning srtrike fried my modem. I am using the laser computer until I can get my modem replaced. There are a number of projects in the works right now, which I am not sure what will take priority.

Hi Christina!

Thanks for chiming in. I hope we can come up with someone to help you all out on line with the Rekat forum. I don't particularly like the gossip, since it's only blind speculation at best! I'd love to see some new goodies as well.

Something always fills a vacuum. The long vacuum caused by no participation by the company, plus the disabled, then disappeared website got filled with speculation and wishful thinking. No real gossip about Spyderco, just wishful thinking for the dedication to quality and attention paid to customers.

It's great to hear from you Christina! I hope you had a good time on vacation. I hope we see more of you here at Bladeforums.:)

Christina,

Dang, it's GREAT to hear from you! (Now where the heck is Bob???).:D.:D.

Christina, while I have your attention, when will it be possible for me to buy a couple sets of dual (ambidextrious) thumb-studs that I can install on my 2 Carnivour Cubs??? (From what I "understand", REKAT is currently out of them?...).:).

You can either PLEASE e-mail me with an answer, or even send me a couple dual thumb-studs, bill me, and I PROMISE to pay the bill...

Hello Christina:
It's great to hear from the people of REKAT, hope you had a great vaction. I look forward to seeing some new stuff from my favorite knife company.

Thanks for getting back to all of us

Take care

Hello Christina! Wonderful to hear REKAT is alive and kicking.
That there has been "gossip" shows you have more than a few fans who are chomping at the bit and nervous about the lack of information from and contact with the company. I wouldn't underestimate the importance of communication, and of the net, but it's your company.

Anyway, it's great to hear from you :)

If you want the smaller companies like REKAT to keep making good knives, the best way is to spread the "word". Let everyone know how good their products are.

I hope REKAT continues to recognize that there is a market niche -- albeit small -- of knife enthusiasts that want something a bit more unique than the styles offered by the big cutlery companies.

I like the fact that REKAT is a "specialty" company and that its products are somewhat esoteric -- like my Sifu in D-2. It almost feels like owning a custom knife. However, I find their stuff is too esoteric and often hard to find (i.e. need more distribution).

Glockman, for 1, is tireless in promoting REKAT knives. I think there is a sizeable # of forumites who have had REKATs and had problems with them. They've been moderately vocal about them. Yes, the customer service in making the knives right is great, but I know I wonder just what percentage of buyers are having those troubles. Since so few make much noise about their REKATs, it is very possible that those with problems who've mentioned them have seemed like a large percentage of the buyers.

You might do well to check out recent threads on topics about the management participation here and website problems.

and dont be mad at us for wondering if all was well - i love REKAT and would hate to see anything bad happen - i posted the thread about wanting to talk about REKAT, etc on this forum, and one thing led to another, and boom, one night i'm surfing BF on spydies forum, and someone posted REKAT sold (being sold?) to spyderco - go figure lol - but i think we are your most loyal customers, i know i have sold a few knives for ya, and will continue to do so - imho REKAT is a small company producing semi cutom quality products, and i think w/a little more promotion, ya could set the world on fire........but to sell a REKAT, people must know REKAT exists - i wish i had a quarter for every person ive shown my sifu too who goes 'REKAT?????" never heard of 'em....

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised to see a bit more defects in a small manufacturer like REKAT, compared to a mainstream company like SPyderco. REKAT might not have access to the plethora of resources and manufacturing processes that a bigger company has. Emerson knives is the same. They make superior designs but, as a small company, they get the occasional lemon off the assembly line.

But then again, you're not buying a mass-market product where several thousand come off an assmebly line, all the same. A REKAT is like having a Dodge Viper. It's exotic, it's mean, it's rare, and was designed to be an all out racing (cutting) machine. Not for general purpose use. However, like an exotic car, you might get a few problems now and again.

Not to say I condone defects; especially hazardous one. Absolutely not. However, many specialty products are not going to have that perfectly stamped, scales matched to .001 microns (or whatever), that a bigger company with more resources are capable of creating.

THAT SAID, my REKAT SIFU D-2 is made as well as any of my Benchmades, or Spydercos; though a shy short of having the smooth action of a 710 Axis.
