Whats with the Chaos hate?

I was wondering why pretty much everybody hates on the Cold Steel Chaos so much. It looks like a interesting, well designed knife, albeit with a fairly limited spectrum of use.

To me it looks like one of those knives people buy to hang on their wall like the crazy Gil Hibben Sci fi demon combat knives.

It's a trench knife. I'm sure it'd do a great job of stabbing people, but it's not going to be the best choice for basically anything else.

Handguards are impractical and unnecessary on a utility knife, and the double-edged model limits what you can do (no choking up, no batonning). Unless you want a dedicated combat knife, why choose a Chaos when there are literally hundreds of better choices for the same or less money?

Why? Probably because it is a interesting, well designed knife, albeit with a fairly limited spectrum of use.

I don't hate on it.

I also don't want one as it clearly appears to be for either self defense or killing.

I guess people just don't have much of a use for trench knives these days. That being said, I'm sure it's a solid piece that can take a beating. Just not my cup of tea. We get a lot of shipments here at work, and I use my knives to cut through boxes and zip ties a lot. I really wouldn't want to bust a Chaos out for that kind of work.

That right there is the funniest thing I have read here in ages. Well done, sir!

I like trench knives. I have never owned one. Same reason I don't have any daggers. Very limited opportunities for use.

I like them, though.

I also limit my purchase of daggers for that reason.

I usually only buy stuff I think I can use.

What everybody said, especially AMG

I hand-guard is what turns me off the most, I actually think it could be not too bad looking without it.

Well, when I'm looking at my 38th knife purchase for the year, I have to make sure it's something that I'll actually use

to open the box for my 39th knife purchase for the year.

Oh my God I love this... Do you mind if I used it in my sig?

I don't think most people hate it, they just don't see much use for it. A lot of people don't buy knives they will never use/carry. And the Chaos is a very specific design, meant for fighting/killing, it's not a small EDC folder, it's not a hunting/skinning knife, it's not a camp knife, you're not gonna be chopping with it, it's not the sort of knife you are gonna bring with you into the woods, at least if your reason for going into the woods doesn't involve some kind of commando raid. And even if you wanted to carry it, so many places have laws against both knuckle dusters AND double edged blades that most people could never legally carry it anyway.

Then there are people like me. I buy plenty of knives I will never use, and I don't hate it myself, but honestly, I don't like the look of the knuckle guard, if I was going to buy a trench knife I would rather have a more authentically styled one.

I was wondering the same thing about my mall ninja knives. I just don't understand why everyone else doesn't love them like I do.

Its pretty cool but knuckle guard trench knives are basically obsolete, they became obsolete in ww1 not long after they were invented in favor of a knife more practical for utility and fighting, like the m3 trench knife that succeeded the m1917 spike and 1918 mk1 (which are extremely cool knives btw). Im assuming alot of people just think mall ninja when they see it combined with cold steels marketing "tactics". I would like to see a quality repro of historically accurate trench knives by a reputable company, originals are really pricey. Beyond that they are just cool to have and play with.

I'll probably get one, why the heck not? Maybe keep it close to my front door or something, next to my 1911, and barely an arms reach away from my shotgun.

Thanks hardheart! It's definitely a great line:thumbup:

Oh and btw, how do I make a sig so that the quote is in a blue bubble like if I was "responding with quote"? I've never figured this out:o

I quite like the look of them, especially the double edged version. The tanto is probably stronger at the tip, and doesn't have the legal issues that the D/E version does, at least as long as Cold Steel market the handle as a "finger guard" not a "knuckle duster".
