I have owned (and loved) the Benchmade 556 Mini Griptilian since they became available, and have been recommending them to friends. Recently, a friend bought one and it has a different finish on the clip and it chips and scratches easily. Why the change?? Does any one know where I can get the old style replacement clips?

I don't have a problem with the black finish on my Benchmade clips, as I remove the black from 'em and give' em a nice mirror-finish.

Same thing with my 806D2. I recieved my 550 for the past Christmas and its got like a gun blued finish on it. A few months after I ordered my 806, and the finish chips off the clip. I really don't like the new finish at all :barf: .

I have bead blasted the black clips on other knives, with excellent results, but no longer have access to a bead blaster :(

Although I really like Benchmade knives and have owned several over the years, I noticed a few years ago they often cheapen up a model shortly after it's introduction. I had the Benchmade 705 immediately after it's intro...shortly thereafter I noticed the newer ones had a plastic back liner as opposed to the original fiber one. The moral of the story is...if you really like a newly intro'd BM, you better buy a couple, cause it may change.

I prefer the old finish on Benchmade's pocket clips. It seemed to have been more durable. The coating on the new clips wears out too easily, but like Glockman said, they are easy to polish to a satin or mirror finish.

The finish on my 806D2 has also chipped pretty bad. Has anyone tried refinishing them? I was thinking about using some Brownells Blue wonder to touch up the chipped spots. I'd like to keep the clip a dark muted color.

My GRIP has the old style finish, and is half worn off. I got it about six months ago. I don't care though because only a little girly man would care if the finish on a pocket clip wears off. (But I'd be pretty pissed if it chipped off, like the cheap dollar store pocket clip that came with my BM 530)

A few months ago the absence of "USA" on the newer US-made BM blades had been brought up on the BM website, and the BM support team replied that the lack of the "USA" stamp had gotten past the radar and had thanked the persons who brought it to their attention. So as time goes on their USA-made knives should once again reflect that on the blade.

Sounds like some of you guys need to call Angie and ask her to send you a new clip.
