A while back The Biscuity One posted about some Ka-Bar kitchen knives that were for sale. Being in need, I picked some up.

Definitely way better than anything we had previously had dedicated in the kitchen.

My question is, what's with the Dogs Head image and name?

I thought Ka-Bar had "Killed a Bear" not attracted a dog.

Please enlighten me with a little history or marketing guru-ness.

Mans best friend got 2

Nice Dogshead

This one Only 1 in CK Yearly Knives to have the Shield

I got this from A.G. Russell's site:

"Ka-Bar's history goes back to the Tidioute Cutlery Company, which was founded in Pennsylvania in 1898. Out of the failure of that company, the Union Razor Company was formed in 1902. The name was changed again in 1909 to Union Cutlery Company and the company moved to Olean, New York in 1910, where it is currently located. In those early years, they made mostly what we today call traditional folders. It was years later that Ka-Bar became known for their military knives.

In 2008, to recognize their 110th anniversary, Ka-Bar introduced a series of four limited edition folders with the Dog's Head inlay, an inlay used in the early 20th century."

Somebody more knowledgeable than me will have to offer details on that early 20th-century inlay. I have a few modern versions.

A. Thanks for the info. Man's best friend would make a lot of sense.

B. I've got to figure out how to take better pics with my phone. And maybe the best way is to not take pics with my phone.

C. I really like those folders. Especially the copper ones. Very pretty.

Reclaimed American Chestnut Dog's Head is simply amazing. From the origin of the wood to the quality of the make.

All of those Dog's Head knives are made by a little know knife company called Canal Street. If you don't know about Canal Street, look them up. Over a 100yrs of knife making experience, and that's just in Wally, the President of Canal. :D :foot:

(If Wally reads that, I'm pretty sure he's gonna shank my ass in June......)

Absolutely phenomenal, well made in the USA, quality craftsmanship. At it's true finest.
