What's with the "horns" on some trapper blades?

Is he referring to a one-armed opening blade?

Probably a one hand opening blade. The semicircle can catch on your pocket and open the blade with one hand.

That's not a knife, it's a goat. Don't mess with it, but don't turn your back on it, either.

I could also imagine that the OP is talking about a Trapperlock with a onehanded opening thumbstud.... but however -

In all seriousness (or as much as I can muster), I wonder if he's referring to a swing guard?

I think the best thing would be when the OP chimes in and posts a pic, a link or whatever ... all we can do now is guessing. The term "horn" is a little strange in this relation. So I think we need some help from the OP to help him with his/her question.

Shell extractor could it be as well. The options are nearly endless.

Out in the west Texas town of El Paso,I saw a trapper, with very long horns ....
