What's With The Ship Dates Lately?

I just pre-ordered my grail knife, the blue M390 Para 2 (I know it's not really a grail for most people, but it's a bit pricey for me and I just love the way it looks... plus M390!). But while I was looking around, I noticed that I couldn't find anything on the recent green Para 2 shipping out even though it was dated earlier this year, and I also noticed that the brown Para 2 dates got moved back.

The blue Para 2 is dated for December 2012, so it's not like I have to wait that long, but I was wondering if Spyderco's just been backed up lately or what? I understand that production lines aren't churning products out 24/7, but I was wondering if it was just because they're gearing up for the holidays or something of that sort.

The Golden factory is running over capacity.

Where are you getting your dates from? Spyderco doesn't publish shipping dates so you must be getting them from the retailer. Spyderco probably gives them a rough idea of when they will get done, but it isn't meant for the public nor written in stone. People getting mad that their knife isn't available yet is exactly why the don't give shipping dates because too many things can happen to cause delays.

The knives you mentioned are all limited folders that are sold through pre-orders. Vendors give rough estimates for delivery time but oher factors determine "actual delivery time". I think the green handed paramilitary 2 has been delayed due to a steel issue which would be an issue beyond Spyderco's control.

Yeah, I kinda figured.

Retailer, yes.

I'm not trying to sound negative about it, I was genuinely curious. Bento Box makes me a bit nervous (not insuring their own shipments, paying full up front), and PayPal has a 45 day resolution window, so if it ends up being delayed past that and then something happens to it, I can't open up a dispute with PayPal.

I've had nothing but good experiences with Spyderco and their customer service, and I understand that production environments are dynamic (having worked in one for years); I'm mainly wondering because of the Bento Box/PayPal thing.

Thanks, that's the kind of info I was looking for... more out of curiosity than anything else.

Can you use a credit card to pay BB? I've had much better luck going through my credit card to get money back if I have a problem. In fact last time I had a problem and used paypal I didn't even bother with their resolution department. I contacted my credit card and had my money back that day.

And has been this entire year from what i've read. Aside from that, limited availability for some steels can cause production delays. Knives with no blades make some people a bit angry.

The brown Para 2 was available like 6 months ago. I picked mine up then.

It looks like they split it up into two production runs because of the backlog in Golden.

Spyderco's website still says green pm2 set to ship June 2012. Knifeworks said July 2012. And the steel issues appear to be worked out because the Southard Flipper is ready to go. And to clear it up the blue and brown one are on their second runs with pre-orders.
