What's with the smooth finish on some Sebenzas?

Hi, I read that the handles on some Sebenza were done in a smooth finish instead of the usual bead blasted finish?

Just wondering what's up with the smooth finish?

Is this a special run that was done? or upon a customer's request? are they rare or worth more than the normal ones?

basically what's the difference? does the smooth finish make the Sebenza less grippy and harder to hold while using it?

TIA for the help!

People have been smoothing them on their own or as part of customization work. I don't recall any specific factory example of a sebenza being smooth. Some inlay and unique graphic models do have a smoother surface on the Ti. Is that what you mean?

links to specific pics might be helpful.

No, actually I mean the Regular and Classic Sebbie models, not the inlay and graphic ones. I have read about it and have seen one on the bay that had smooth handles..

If it's on the bay was it new or used? Where did you read about smooth sebenzas?

The finish that a certain knife gets is based on the "age" of the blast material. A new batch of bead blast medium will produce a rough like finish. When the medium has blasted a 1000 knives or so it gradually produces a smoother finish. At that point, the good people at CRK switch over to a fresh bead blast. I asked Ann this question about 5 years ago, and this is the best way I can explain her answer. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the answers guys... i read about it on some thread on the other forum and saw a photo of it on the bay..

It looked really really smooth...
