What's with the swedge on the Esse 4 now??

I recently traded my esee rc4 and when I went online to see what kind of price I can look forward to paying in the near future, and all the models I saw have this swedge that even looks sharpened to me. The one I had, had a straight spine just like the Rat 3/7 always had. So is this something new or have I just never seen it before, and can you still get one new w/o it? Here's a pic.
I just poked around more and see that there are still a ton w/o the swedge but I'm still curious to know when this style popped up and why if anyone knows.

Last I checked it was an option, I think they still make the plain version(but I'm no expert). If you're buying one I would just read the description very carefully, some sites use the same pic even if the models are slightly different.
 
Both are available. don't really know why the swedge became an option-alot of people at the time were asking for clip point versions and I think they mistook that for a swedged point. Maybe an overpriced firesteel striker or something...
