I wrote an e-mail about a PC bali to the repair department at benchmade . In the reply they got snotty about them not buying PC (the company). On their forum page , the current owner seems to be quick to bite the heads off of anyone who implies a Balisong USA/PC/benchmade conection ..

I for one love their bali's but the attitude has got to go. I don't think I'll be buying any more benchmade products , not until the TUDE changes....

I didn't expect them to service the knife , I asked if they would . The reason I asked was the well known conection between PC and Benchmade (no matter what they claim , they are a synthisis of each other ). I have noticed here and on their own forum a attitude whenever anyone implies such a connection . If I am wrong about the connection , then my bad . If I am not wrong , then their bad . Customer relations is a touchy thing , I know , I work in the feild. When answering legitamate questions . answering with attitude is not the PRO way to do it...

You asked them to service the knife. Whether you, personally, expected them to, or not, from what they see, here's this guy telling them that they should service a knife htey were not responsible for.

I did not "TELL" them to do anything . I "ASKED" them if they did service a product that was made by a connected company. I think that they , like others might have read into to what I wrote , but that is not my fault . I certainly meant no disrespect by pointing out the conection between the two companies .

I also don't expect any sympathy from anyone at this forum (where benchmade bali's are king ). I just thought that this was an example of a company with a corner on the market . They tend to loose sight of the customer .

I've dealt with Benchmade a lot. Never had anything but the best of service. I'd tend to agree with JB, I don't think Angie is the one with the TUDE.

I have a Custom BaliSong USA from Dawkind that I would like to get refurbished, I am going to call them as they used to offer that service...throughout the BaliSong USA, Pacific Cutlery and Benchmade years. And that is a fact.

The problem is, there might not be anyone SKILLED enough at Benchmade to service my Custom. I know of one person but I don't know if he would be tasked with that or not.

Customs are an interesting twist and I do not know if the original post in this thread was about a Custom or Production Knife.

I think the Customs are a separate issue and they are associated with Les deAsis himself throughout the history of his Business and through the Genesis of it from BaliSong USA to BM.

I think it would be inaccurate to say that BM does not have an "attitude" at times, then again, everyone does.

I think if the original poster did as he said, and asked and not demanded, it could have been handled better if in fact he did get a bad attitude.

In short, as far as Customs go, I don't think that Mr. deAsis can ever separate himself from BaliSong USA or Pacific Cutlery.

Mr. deAsis IS BaliSong USA, Pacific Cutlery and Benchmade. He made them what they were when it come to the Custom BaliSong.

What knife were you requesting service on?

I've had nothing but exceptional service from Benchmade. Angie has always been curtious and prompt.

As far as the PC/Benchmade issue, I know that it IS a sensitive topic for certain people at Benchmade. Actually, I think this was discussed before on an earlier post...

I have since had contact with Angie , and the misunderstanding on BOTH of our parts has been rectified . I didn't mean to PO people , I just wanted to point out what many have said , I'm just a bit more blunt than most . If there is a misunderstanding , it's best handled straitforward and to the point. Benchmade has offered its sharpening service , but they do not have pins to do a replacement .

And the knife in question was a .......?

benchmade needs to treat us good if they want us to buy ther high priced knives ! Why cant benchmade parts be used in pc knives ?

If Benchmade serviced the knife, they would both set a precedent, forcing them to service any PC knife that someone sent them, and they would also be legally responsible for the knife. In our current 'sue first, ask questions later' society, they can't afford that kind of exposure. Nor can anyone else.

If you search using anagarika as user name, you will find my reply to a post mentioning BM even offering to replace the handle of my PC International!

I think since the model was quite similar, the dimension can't be that much different. I have a BM239 that really resemble my PC International, except for a better fit and finish.

And yes, they will do the service (maybe at a fee) but that should not hold them liable for anything PC or Bali-Song made balis. The only reason I asked was that they are the only people know best about balis and the owner is the same.

No I don't think that would set a precident at all. However, all this chap did was ask. Nothing wrong with that. If you don't ask...
