I hear a lot of forumers say accusharps ruin edges?
I use my accusharp for sharpening my kitchen stuff quickly

Greetings Chochocrazy: The Accusharp is more of a blade scraper than a blade sharpener. The carbide cutters in the sharpener remove an unnecessarily large amount of steel in order to accomplish their designed task. On many knives the cutters will rip out steel from not only the secondary bevel but the primary bevel as well. They take it out in "chunks" creating an uneven cutting edge. The Accusharp, IMHO, will scrape a cutting edge on to a dull knife but will obliterate a relatively sharp edge that only needs touching up. If your knife is worth more than three bucks you probably shouldn't use the Accusharp. There are many other sharpening methods and systems that are superior. But if your happy with it --- use it. They are your knives. OldDude1

When I was just learning to sharpen knives, and couldn't do it, I got one. They are very fast, but they also remove a lot of metal. You'll get a longer lasting edge and knife with something as simple as a Lanksky sharpening kit.

With help from people here I'm learning how to really care for my knives. A knife is nothing more than a tool, and I believe the people in this forum enjoy taking care of their tools. If sharpening knives isn't your thing, do what my sister did and buy some of those Ginsu knives. My sister swears by them.

Otherwise, everything OldDude1 said.
