Hello,
Knowing full well that opinions vary widely, I was wondering why the general consensus is that Buck's knives are for "armchair warriors." Could it be the steel (420HC stainless)? Is it not durable? etc.?

I was just thinking of purchasing a 119. Back when I knew nothing about knives, I heard a lot of good things. Perhaps my crowd has changed since I came here and heard different views, but then again, I hear both good and bad things about SOG here as well.
Thanks!

There isn't anything wrong with Buck knives, they are fine and perform well in their price range.

Just don't expect to pay $35 for a knife and get the same performance you would from a $300+ knife.

Where I come from, Buck knives are rarely seen in the hands of "armchair warriors", but in the hands of hunters, farmers, fishermen and outdoorsmen of every type.

People who actually use their knives.

A great deal of the 420HC/Buck bashing, is probably being done by folks closer to the armchair/internet "warriors" description.

Yeah, the ones who really use their knives, I have owned 4 or 5 110's over the years, 2 112's and a 119.

They are great user knives and not expensive so if something happens to one it's not a big deal and they can be had just about anyplace.

Buck makes a good product and stands behind it 100%. Nothing wrong with that.

This is probably closer to the truth than you know.

Carl.

My first knife was a 110 and it's still one of my favorites.

Nothing wrong with Buck at all.

Since this is really not about a knife discussion and more of a trolling question...

Impressive! A unanimous decision. Hope my dad will like this as a gift :) thanks, all

I agree with Bear Claw and jackknife. I can't see where Buck is anything other than a very reputable American company that makes a good, useful product that fits very well in its price/value range. 420HC is dependable, easy to sharpen, very corrosion resistant, and holds a good edge with Buck's HT.

Buck knows their customer base and they design knives for the people that buy Buck knives. They have a good warranty and they stand behind what they make. The few times I've had to use their CS, they went above and beyond what I asked for to make my knife like new. I still have a 110 and a 112 in my collection and always will have. And they're still razor sharp and very useable anytime I want to carry them.

420HC is a fine steel. Stop listening to armchair warriors.
