every time i start it up i click the firefox shortcut and it wont open, then i go to task manager and try to start it that way, but no go. then i restart and sometimes it works and sometimes i have to restart again to get it going. wtf. i have no clue what could be causing this, i went and deleted all unnessary programs and i still get the problem. please help me out.

Sometimes shortcuts themselves get corrupted, or loose the path to the program's .exe. Go to the folder in program files where firefox resides, (normally program files/mozilla firefox) and see if you can open it by clicking on the Firefox icon.
If that works, you know the program is OK; just delete the desktop icon and create a new shortcut.
If there are problems with the program not opening at all, and you're not getting an error message, just delete the thing and re-download.

I've had almost no trouble with Firefox.

Try reinstalling Firefox and see what happens. Might want to get the latest release if you don't have already.

CTRL+ALT+DELETE, click the processes tab, then find out if firefox.exe is running if it does, click the firefox.exe slot, then END PROCESS. Try if it works.

1. the shortcut is corrupted - try locating the real .exe file in somewhere like "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox" without the quotes. C: is where you installed firefox to. Then create a new shortcut from that file.

2. if double clicking on firefox.exe doesnt work - uninstall it and get opera from www.opera.com

3. never ever use IE

The problem is , your using Firefox ;) There's nothing wrong with IE that taking a few precautions (as one should anyway) wont fix.

Delete and recreate the shortcut.
Also it wouldn't hurt if you delete the profile.
( documents and settings/%username%/application data/mozilla/firefox/ )

(reinstalling DOESN'T delete these profiles!)

i tryed to install ubuntu before but it didit work. so i used alcohol 120% to mount the image as its an iso file but that didint work. then i tryed to burn the image to a writable dvd and just put it in the drive and restart but that didint work either. does anyone know how to run ubuntu? i hear its the best security that is relitavly user friendly.

best security? ubuntu is a linux OS. I would not recomend that you run a linux OS if you can't fix a shortcut or figure out how to mount an image.

And there is nothing wrong with IE, It is the most compatable browser out there, Just don't be an idiot about your browsing, have a good virus scan and spyware scanner. I've tested basically everything thats out there and I'm a huge fan of Panda's AV engine. After testing everything out there I've settled with Secure Resolution as my #1 choice for AV and antivirus... all in one.

IE generally has more security flaws compared to the other browsers. So to be on the safe side, dont use IE. Everyone know that.

Why would you wanna use ubuntu anyway, its linux, its hard to use. I think you can order the CD's from them with ubuntu on. A live ubuntu version is better I think which gives you the chance to test it without physically installing anything on your computer. If you like it, then go ahead with installing it...

i was planing on getting it for a while now, then the firefox started acting up and i rembered the faild attempt at installing ubuntu

I agree IE can offer some security. But it requires turning off most of options and then it can hardly be used as almost anything doesn't work.
Or are you talking about iframe and similiar BS (and of most vulnerable things in IE)? Try UML in Firefox :p
From what I have tried IE is one of the worst. Even the Mac's Safari is better.
IE doesn't offer even the tabbed browsing.
And if you are talking about compatibility how then IE cannot change the text size? Opera and Firefox can.

Firefox or Opera are light years ahead IE (6, but I doubt IE7 will be any better).

As for antivirus - why correct consequencess when you can correct cause (=IE)?

Believe me, I do know all the options out there and have tried them all, This is part of what I do for a living. I run IE with everything open, even more so than default. I'm just smart about what I click on. Albiet I am behind a Cisco PIX 501 firewall at home but that another story. I am not down playing Firefox, Its great for what people use it for, I used it for a year and enjoyed it but for my needs there were too many compatability problems. I just think people down talk IE too much when for the most part its their browsing habits to blame.

In the past year, I have not had a single detected issue, virus or spyware. So I am not correcting anything but having the proper security is ALWAYS recomended. Firefox or Opera or IE I've seen COUNTLESS completely messed up systems with any and all browsers.

ps: I love the czech Repub by the way, my band toured Europe earlier this year and we played in Prague, beautiful, really friendly locals as well.

I don't want to play smartass but I think you know scripting in IE allows to do various things (among them downloading and executing) without user clicking anything. Btw hardware firewall may help you not to become zombie but can't help you with the malware.
For me IE isn't good enough. If it is for you I have no problem about it :)

YA I hear ya, thats where the "being smart about your browsing" comes into play. If someone doesn't know the sites they are goin to then sure, use firefox or opera and provide yourself some extra security. I do a lot of work on secured sites that only with IE so that was a major downfall for my firefox usage.

These days, "being smart about your browsing" may not be enough. Emails, websites, downloads you think are safe might contain malicious files. IE also has much much less features compared to the other browsers. If you want to use IE, be my guest but why settle for something less when you can get something great for the same price: FREE.

You have to boot from the ubuntu DVD to install it. I seriously wouldn't recommend having Linux as your only os unless you know what you're doing though.

request for the live ubuntu version. test it first and if you like it, you can install it. linux can be you're primary os but will be hard to get software for and maybe even hardware for.
