What's wrong with the Magnum?

^^^ what LX said. Also I think Boker may be trying to upgrade these a little as they do offer a Magnum Bowie in 440C steel.

Can you say "China"?

And the fact that some of the Magnum line simply weren't very good. I bought a Magnum linerlock once because it was very inexpensive, and because the local $.99 Store had an identical copy for a buck that I wanted to compare to. Yup, the no name dollar copy was better than the Magnum branded version. The two were otherwise almost exchangeable.

The more current Magnums I've seen seem to be better.

I don't remember ever having a Magnum brand knife, but the newer Boker Plus knives being built in China are very well made, or so my experience has been. I have a Valkryie, a Batman, had a Rampage, and one other whose name I can't wrap my tongue around at the moment, and all of them had excellent fit/finish, evenly ground edges, and those with the 440C blade steel have/had well heat treated blades. The Batman has a Chinese steel and I have only sharpened this one, but it takes a razor edge, and don't really know what I would use it for except to show folks. I like it anyway and it won't be the first knife I have bought that has no practical use.:D

What I am trying to say is that China produced knives are going to be as good as the company having them built want those knives to be. It is obvious that a lot of machinery is being used to produce the different parts, and as long as it is dialed in correctly it will work out whether in China, Timbuktu, or the US. At least that is my opinion.

I have a magnum two blade copperhead that has good action. Although it has not seen a lot of action....

There is a BIG difference between the Magnum and the Plus line. The word 'Magnum' creates expectations that are never met. I own a Bulldog, and it's a cute little knife but by far the runt of all the Bokers I own - and the rest are all Plus.
The Bulldog has a completely blunt tip, the lock feels frail and the grind is inefficient. Just not a very good knife, and if it's indicative of the rest of the Magnum line, it would explain why knife enthousiasts give it a wide berth. I know I do, after the Bulldog.

The Plus line is a different matter altogether.

Thanks for the replies, I have a Magnum auto I picked up at a gun show, it seems like a pretty well made knife for the money, but I haven't really used it for anything, just a novelty since where I live autos are nonexistent. Guess for that it'll be Ok, but I think I'll try the AK47 on your advice.

I have been very very impressed with the Magnum aut## and Jim Wagner reality series. Fit and finish were superb on both. They are made in Asia which is further proof that Asia is starting to produce more high quality products.

The Jim Wagner lockback knife was sent to me by mistake and although it really is not my style of blade I was so impressed with the fit and finish that I opted to buy in addition to having the one I was supposed to get shipped to me.

I have the Magnum Neck Flash and the Piranha folder. Both good quality for the price.
Also have the Plus MA-2. The MA-2 is cool looking, but hard to hold.
The Neck Flash is my EDC.

I bought the Boker Magnum Bulldog, Love this 12 dollar knife. My girlfriend likes the design. I prefer it to some of the other brands at this price range.

To me, there is no "bad" knife!!!

It depends, what you exspect from it. So, if you use your knife once in a while or only for vacation... you will be happy with a Magnum model.

But, ifyou are a hunter, soldier, LEO or craftsman... somebody, whose work/mission depends on his tool, I would suggest to go one step further and go for a Boker Plus or a Boker knife!

Again, there is no bad knife in my opinion, only the wrong job for the tool you are using at this time...
