I just ordered a ZT0301 from kershawguy. Since I'm just going to hard use it and never get rid of it, I decided to buy a blem model. Now I have a pretty good eye for knives and have seen a few of these blem models and they usually have something wrong with the coating or the g-10, etc. I've been looking at this damn thing for an hour and for the life of me I cannot find anything wrong with it. I was just going to see if any ZT experts would know what are common reasons why its a blem because I cannot find anything wrong would this one and would like to know whats wrong with it. What should I look at?

Are there 4 X's on the back of the blade? Those aren't supposed to be there. That's the blem. ;)

Seriously though, most of the blems I've gotten, I've looked over very closely and not found anything functionally or cosmetically wrong. To date, I've only come across 3 with noticeable cosmetic blems (2 with some discoloration on the blade, and one where the blade coating on the spine had a couple of dings) and 2 with minor functional issues (affected how smoothly the knife opened).

Since you ordered a blem and it has nothing wrong with it, I would return it. Have Dave check the replacement to make sure something is wrong with it before shipping.

Just Kidding. :D

Haha I'm very OCD so it will bother me forever knowing that there is something there and I'm missing it. Oh well  I love the knife though :p

I'm sure Dave will make it right... err wrong.

I bet Dave sends out a perfect knife at random as a blem from time to time.
Just to make you crazy! :D

I had a ZT 0350 blem (sold to a friend locally as the jimping was too aggressive and was uncomfortable to me) that I couldn't find anything wrong with until I opened it up to take the torsion bar out. Underneath the G10 scale on the left side, there was a scratch on the liner about a 1/4 inch long toward the middle on the side the G10 goes against. As I could find nothing else wrong with the knife, I assumed this was probably the blem though you would never have noticed it or seen it until you took the knife apart.

Could be something as simple as a little slip during sharpening making it a bit uneven in a place. Or maybe its on something you can't see without taking it apart

I got a 200 blem from Dave two days ago the only thing wrong with it is a small blemish on the swedge it's one of those things you can only see if you tilt it "just right" lol

Well, it' says it Zero Tolerance and in reality it's 0.0000000000001 Tolerance. It's hard to see unless you look very closely.

Rumor has it to better serve his customers, Dave has an engraving machine to stamp his own x's on new knives, just to give us something to marvel about when the "blem" has no blem, all in good fun of course.:D seriously, Dave is great though.

most of my blems have an uneven grind...which matters not to me; they all work very well...

I don't think internal cosmetic stuff generally rates it as a blem. I got a tanto Zing LE with a black anodized coating on the blade and the coating on the hidden part of the blade was very uneven, and even non-existent in some places even though it was brand new. It was not a blem. I did get a couple of blem Zings with bead blast coating and I can't see any imperfections although one of them has a lot of "slop" in the detente. Not a big deal since the detente still works fine, and I don't even know if that's why it's a blem. In fact, the blems work better than the LE.

2 out of the 3 ZT "blems" I ordered, I could NOT find what they were. the one box even had a helpful slip in there with "Blem: dot on right front above blade" and I'll be damned if I took another 20 minutes and STILL couldn't find it. The one blem I was able to find easily looked like a piece of wood rubbed against the flat black portion of blade....1st wipedown it was gone. I'm sure some of it is "coating is 0.0004" thicker than surrounding area". I love em, wouldn't exchange them for anything...

How does one go about getting a "blem" knife? And who does one talk to? This one thanks ya'll in advance.
