So i brought this Katana a little while ago. For the price i paid i am very pleased, it seems well made, genuinely razor sharp, nice fittings and sheath, you can hold the sword upside down in the sheath and it wont fall out etc, but one thing that really bugs me is the tip is very ugly, and i can't figure out what they've actually done to it. Whether its just a cosmetic, polishing/whatever error, or something more serious. Please take a look at the pics and comment. (the last 4 are the relevant ones)

Pics don't work for me without copying the links into a browser.

Are you referring to the brown tinge? Looks to me like they might have burnt the metal or something. Where did you buy it? It looks like a chitana to me, mystery metal and questionable heat treat etc. Could be rust also? More info on the piece would be useful.

It is a Chinese katana, from ebay, 1090 c steel. Look at the last two pictures. There is the hamon annnnd... whats the second line? There is no rust, basically it just looks like whatever technique theyve used to get that two tone, satin look, has not has not been done right on the tip, but thats just my guess. I know people will blabla china blabla, but i am happy with the sword, its a good cutter, had it for months and nothings came loose or anything, it was cheap as chips and i like being able to specify sheath, fittings and colour scheme etc. I complained about this when i first got it, and he refunded some money and sent a free stand, but i never chased him up about what the actual problem is.

Probably for a better diagnosis need higher res pics under better lighting. Also looks like there might be a spot or two of the edge not hardened properly but could just be glare.
