What's wrong with this picture? - S&M Content

I would say the keystone shield is upside down? The tang stamp looks a bit suspect also.

Shield is upside down. None of those are stamped. Per Ken the steel was/is so hard they just etched the tangs.

Looking at others on different web sites, I would say the shield is backwards.

Definitely upside down. I didn't know that the tangs were etched instead of stamped. Thanks for that info biglmbass. If any of you own one of these, I'd like to hear about the quality of this run. Only 75 made of each single blade version.
Thanks.

I've got one in smooth white bone that I hand picked at a knife show in TN back in December. I picked it from the 3 available since it's blade was dead center on close. All were great & fairly equal in fit & finish department. It's the same knife as the Northwood's Gunstock Jack. Haven't used mine & probably won't but I like how thin it is & that it's something of a rarity being a single blade gunstock.

Back to front shield is bizarre. Or perhaps they've decided to place in in a new fashion.....?

I think it's ATS 34 so that may explain the etching, a very nice blade even if I don't care for the pattern.

Will.....The steel is CPM-154.

Just picked up this one with white bone covers last weekend at the local knife show from Ryan Daniels. He told me they did the run of these to try out CPM-154. I haven't had to sharpen it yet, as it came fairly sharp from the factory. As was mentioned, all the markings are etched. These have a half stop and the spring is flush in the open and closed positions. There are no gaps anywhere that I can detect. Overall I'm very pleased with it.

That doesn't sound right. The Northwoods run of these had stamped tangs, and lots of other CPM 154 knives have stampings. That is done before heat treat, so hardness shouldn't be an issue. I don't really care for the etchings either, and they don't seem properly placed. Im happy with the Northwoods knife i got, though. Quality was not bad.

Regardless of what it sounds like (shrug), that is what Ken Daniels told me when I purchased it at his table. Since I got it I too have noticed some of their other models in the same steel w' stamped tangs. Go figure...

The etch is light & inconsistently applied I've noticed on some. Doesn't bother me a great deal, but I'd rather it be stamped.

Strange knife.
If it were my company, I wouldn't let that knife out in public -
Let alone sell it!!!

Perhaps one of QCC'S cutlers did it on purpose. The keystone holds everything together from the top. Perhaps in a bit of irony, someone felt that they were keeping things together from the "bottom up". Na, just an honest mistake............

Just giving this one a bump since I fixed the pics in my previous post. I hadn't realized my recent pictures weren't showing up.

Here's another one with the Gunstock in it.

I owned one in smooth white bone, but the quality was so poor that I returned it to the dealer. The shield was proud on one side and deeply sunk on the other, there was a weird convex "bite" out of one side of the tang, the bone was flaked and chipped around the shield, and the bolster on one side was a different size than its opposite number.

I didn't like the look of the blade or tang etch, but I loved the blade profile and the feel of the knife in hand. I couldn't justify gambling on another one sight unseen, though, so I haven't replaced it.

They are blowing smoke about the etched tang stamps, they are now using the etch on all the S&M tang stamps and on all steel types..........Don't like that at all.
