What's your BOB checklist?

Totally new to the term, and just found out what it meant, so I'm beginning to horde stuff to make one. I'm kind of asking for a lot, but if you've got time, make a list on what you think a BOB should have. I have a general conception of what's supposed to be inside, but I maybe missing alot.

Thanks and much appreciated. :D

Since you live in the SoCal area, as I do, I would recommend a serious disaster kit. There are many earthquake kit lists online. After you have your Disaster Kit put together, take the all the small, urgent things and put them in a BOB. Things like spare glasses, keys, money, knives, gun, phone numbers, medicines, small first aid kit, leatherman, flashlight... You get the idea.

This is the bag that you want to have by the bed or the door, so when the fire starts or the earthquake hits, you can grab it and run. Later, hopefully, you can return for the Disaster Kit for the long haul.

Hope this helps...

Mine are based on these:
http://equipped.org/survlkit.htm

I have several of different sizes and for different uses and scenarios (wilderness, urban, etc.). You have to give us a better idea of what your "plan" is. If you are preparing for a fire in your home where you run to your neighbor, call the insurance company and stay with your Mom 3 blocks away I'd say have a backup of your family photos, important documents and pair of sneakers. If you are preparing for a New Orleans-esque flood then something more substantial is in order. If you are preparing for a TEOTWAWKI scenario then you should rethink about your strategy.

What are your size/weight constraints? (If you say "none" I'll tell you to pack an RV.)
Are you packing for only yourself?
How far/long do you intend to travel?
Personal medical considerations?

Like buying knives one can spend as much time and money on this as they choose. If you want a couple of quick lists check the link above. If you want something customized for your situation then you may want to create an account on the ETS forums and introduce yourself.

mine has:

a hat
another hat

eight ounces of neufchatel
a toque

Do you wear all the hats at the same time, or do you have different hats for different uses? Is your bag just a 10-gallon hat or a sombrero?

Check out AR15.COM to see some good forums on this.
I have 2 BOBs. Bob 1 is at the house packed and ready for a grab and go situation with the exception of a firearm. Bob 2 stays with me in my ride and is a smaller version of the one at the house. Some may not agree with me on having 2 of these but hey whatever you find that works for you.

Some of the contents are as follows.
-knife
-firstaide kit
-rain gear
-small stash of cash
-firearm ( pistol )
-ammo
-paracord ( this stuff has a million uses )
-flashlight
-batteries
-small stash of some type of food
-matches/ligher ( firestarter )
-compass

This is not a full list by any means nor is it in any order, but you can see my point. If I got in a situation where I was stuck and had to survive out of it for a day or so I could. When I got on a long road trip I take both of them with me as the larger pack at home contains much more stuff. The sky is the limit here just think about what you need, lay out a plan and pack the basic necessities. Hope this helps.....

And I'm sure I'm forgetting some things, I know I want to get some quick clot for my first aid kit, and get some non volatile super glue for emergency suture situations.

I developed a few lists for a couple different “BoB’s”.

Focus on the "Essentials":

Essentials:

Appropriate and seasonal clothing
Shelter (I include cordage – about 50-100 feet of 550 cord)
Water
Fire
Water (procuring, purifying/filtering, transporting)
Food
Tool (read as “Blade or multitool”)
Navigation (i.e. compass/map)
Signaling (flashlight, whistle, signal mirror, cell phone, Shortwave/WX radio for receiving)
First Aid (kit, sunscreen, prescription meds)
Self Defense (hiking stick, firearm, etc….my addition)

Understand that everybody’s situation is going to be a little different:

Staying home?
Getting home?
Leaving home for another destination?
Rural or Urban location?
Terrain – open, wooded, swamp, waterways, etc.
Season
Distance
Transportation type (Public, car/truck, motorcycle, bike, etc.)
Any medical concerns?
Current physical fitness?
Are you trained in martial arts or have a Carry Concealed Permit...can you carry at work?
Have you reconnoitered your routes?
Water sources along your route?
Do you have alternate routes?
Have you identified hazard areas or choke points along your bug out/bug home route?

Sorry…a lot to consider on top of just cramming stuff in a backpack. Whatever you finally decide on, spend a couple nights camping with your BoB. Figure out what works, what doesn’t, how it carries, what’s missing, what can be dropped. If you plan on doing anything by foot, make sure you have a comfortable pack and you’ve done at least some walking/hiking with it. Don’ t forget to pack some separate clothes if your daily attire isn’t conducive to hiking (quality boots/shoes).

Also consider what you EDC (Every Day Carry). A lot of handy tools and "essentials" can be carried even in ordinary clothing attire...LED flashlight, folding or even fixed blade, a little 550-cord, compass, CCW, whistle, etc.

Hope that helps a little,

ROCK6

I know I want to get some quick clot for my first aid kit, and get some non volatile super glue for emergency suture situations.

These are both on my list of items to add this year! Let us know what brand of suture glue you end up with. Also, is the antibiotic Quikclot worth the extra $10?

I'm told the antibiotic version is "the one to get" from a buddy of mine, but I will be doing some more research on the stuff eventually, same for the liquid stitches. I'll post up when I make up my mind eventually.
