Most people who get into knife collecting will develop a certain pattern of acquisition with a resulting body of blades that reflects their unique style.

So my question to you is, what's your strategy to knife collecting?

I'm curious to see other people's approaches.

1. Solid company, with a great rep, and customer service
2. Country of origin - I'm picky, I'll branch out here and there, but no China blades
3. Different locks - I enjoy playing with different engineering
4. Materials - good/great steel, nicer materials for scales and liners
5. I like anything sharp and shiny, meaning I like a traditional I get a traditional, or I like a tactical I get a tactical, I want a chopper I get a chopper. But with each purchase I use the above criteria.
6. For folders no thumb studs, only thumb holes, or Emerson's disk.

Strategy!?? :) :)

Knives kind of jumps on you and have a tendancy to pile up. Is that a collection?

My focus shifts from time to time and that can be seen in my pile. But if money wasn't an issue...

For me, it was started with one or two $100+ knives, then a few months of blur where I spent tons of money on all kinds of knives from customs to inexpensive ones.

Finally, I picked a specific brand and sold off the rest of my collection. Now I try to only buy a few knives a year, but those knives will be $150+ pieces.

materials, steel type, made in usa, reputation, between 3"-4" (for folders)

i have some knives that were made elsewhere but they predate my "strategy" so they got grandfathered in :)
