What's your concept of the ideal EDC?

What's your concept of the "perfect" EDC? For me, it would combine the following:
1. A handle like the Emerson Commander
2. Blade like the Spyderco Chinook II, with the addition of Emerson's wave/thumb-ramp
3. Strong Axis lock

I'm working on my own design at the moment.

It will fit inside a front or rear pocket with no printing or clip to carry it where it can be seen, be accessable immediately as it is drawn from the pocket, the blade no longer than 2 1/4" in length so almost anyone can carry it, be short enough to not extend longer than a standard back pocket of jeans or dockers and not have to be opened to use it [ it can be used immediately upon accessing it ].

Have a maker on board who will make the protos and a kydex sheath maker on board who will take the design to where it is deployable immediately upon touching it.

Check out Peter Atwood's Solar Arc. It's a close to perfect I've found, with the exception to making my own. 3" blade s30v, framelock, maple burl overlay, just what I wanted!

1. I agree with cds1, Emerson Commander handle (or something that comfortable and secure).
2. Hollowground, satin finish S30V or 3V spearpoint blade with convex edge.
3. Axis lock with skeletonized stainless liners (think Axis AFCK), cylindrical steel spacers.
4. Drilled & tapped for 4 position clip carry, bronze-phosphor washers.
5. Low profile clip, rides low in pocket.
6. No sharp corners or edges exposed when closed.
7. Opening hole, no thumbstuds.
8. 3.75" blade, total weight under 4.5 oz.
9. Warranty like Strider's.
10. Did I mention it has to be a folder? :D

Spydie Native, with a full flat grind, bead blasted Ti handles with the exact same texture design/radiused edges of the current handle, deep pocket wire clip, S30V. $140 MSRP ($100 internet price).

It pretty much exists, but I'd like to see some changes...

Starting with a benchmade 943 as a base...

1. G10 handles or equivalent. The aluminum, I just don't really like...
2. Slighly longer blade...there's still some space in the handles left, c'mon, we can squeeze .05" out of it :-P
3. Better blade steel. Uncoated D2 anyone? No coating though, that would suck...

It's no wonder most people haven't found the "ideal" EDC - it seems almost everybody as a different idea of what that is!

The Spyderco Military and Chinook II are about perfect for me right now. My ideal EDC would probably be a flat ground Crawford Kasper with a Spyderhole, G10 handles and a intergal compression lock.

A handle 3 1/2"-3 3/4" long with a blade 2 1/2"-2 3/4" long. Blade steel should be one of the higher grade stainless steels. Lock blade or slip joint, it really doesn't matter. Fit and finish should be excellent or better. Handle materials could be whatever "fits" that particular knife the best.

Blade 4-6 in. and handle comfortable in the forward grip. Kydex sheath, axis lock, or framelock. D2 tool steel or high carbon steel. Water resistant coating. Balance on the part of the handle where the index finger is, and a nice deep choil there. Recurve blade or blade angled from the handle so as to cut at an angle. A nice, straight clip point like on the AFCK - the tip has to be pointy.

The AFCK is perfect, and the Greco Whisper will be when I get a new sheath for it.
