just got the black Al Mar Nomad....says its black chrome coating....now i'm kinda wondering if I shoulda gotten the satin...oh well...F&F is so fantastic I just gotta keep it...I'll get a satin later.....I guess my favorites are really satin, mirror etc...I guess the coating will help protect the blade though...I get my Caly ZDP blades shiny,shiny,shiny!!!.......p

I really don't care that much except that are blade finishes I don't like much at all.

I really don't like black blades (with the except of TiNi, which I think is actually quite beautiful) and I really don't like heavy stonewashing just because I think it's....hideous. But the two finishes are the opposite of each other--the matte black blades show scratches really easily and the stonewashed blades hide scratches (supposedly).

I guess I tend to buy a lot of satin.

Satin or polished are my favorites. Bead blasted looks good on some knives too.

I wouldn't buy a coated blade, unless it was a knife I really wanted and there's no option.

I prefer satin finishes becasue they if they become ugle, a little steel wool or such will clean them up.

Can't stand bead blasted finishes on guns or knives because they scratch so easily. Also those porus surfaces tend to retain moisture making rust a bigger issue.

Satin is my favorite followed by polished
i used to like black blades alot but now i dont care for them. Although I dont mind them on my fixed blades .

I like black blades. I can tell how much I've used them and it assists when I sharpen them (think rebevelling). Non-reflective is a nice feature, too, with most of them.

Unfortunately, I've come to associate a mirror finish with cheap (too many crap knives have it). With mirrored finishes, I want to see razor sharp demarcation lines in the profile of the knife.

Mine is a brushed, satin or scotchbrite finish. Basically all the same. I dislike mirror finishes.

I like the regular finish. Not sure what its called. Its not the bead-blasted or satin finish because they get scuffed easily. The kind of finish you would see on a Endura.

Satin finish all the way. I really like the satin finish found on quality antique slipjoints, they called it glazed finish (as opposed to the high polish crocus finish).

Agree with Deathshead on the Endura-type finishes. Those are the best for stainless blades, IMO.
