I've been thinking about getting my next custom with a damascus blade, but am having trouble deciding on a pattern. What's your favorite damascus pattern (pictures are appreciated)?

I really like them all, but my favorite has to be a tight twist pattern.

I like all damascus steel blades, well maybe not zebra, but I'm partial to raindrop and of course spyrograph as on my fancy Sebenza.

I've liked nearly every damascus pattern I've seen, but I think my favorite would be Devin Thomas's fireball pattern.

My favorite patterns are those that are specific to one maker. First is Wolf Tooth pattern by Jerry Fisk.

Second is Fire & Water by Tim Foster.

There are also at least a couple of hundred mosaic damascus patterns that I find mesmerizing.

Jerry Rados Turkish patterns are my favorite that are available to makers that don't make their own damascus. The blade on the knife below is an example of his Turkish Twist.

Great idea for a thread. I really want to add a damascus piece to my collection as well. Pics courtesy of devinthomas.com :

My favorite is raindrop:

Though these are also quite nice.

Man, this is going to be a difficult choice. I've always liked Raindrop, but the Turkish Twist is pretty tight, too. And it's not like I've ever really seen a bad looking piece of damascus. It's funny how when I got into knives some 10 years ago, two things never really appealed to me--damascus and MOP. Now, my favorite handle/insert material is white MOP and I'm looking for a damascus to go with that MOP on my next knife. Thanks for the pics, guys.

Fireball is good. Raindrop is good, but crazy lacy and spirograph are my overall favorites.

Probably Spirograph, but there are so many I like that's a tough call. Certainly some of the mosaic patterns can be incredible. BTW, the pattern in the Sebbie with the "plain and fancy" by five point ohh, is spirograph, not raindrop. I also think the reptilian pattern by Bernie Reitveld is really cool when paired with snakewood in one of my mnandis.

Its tough getting a good contrasting picture of it (its too light but at least you can see some of the patterns). This is the blade of my Reese Weiland Asp and its one of my favorite Damascus.

Great question!

Of the "regular" patterns, made my Norris, Thomas, Eggerling, Ealy etc. I think I like Vines and Roses, then reptilian a close second, both are Devin Thomas I think. I also like Rados Turkish Twist and regular old ladder can be nice too.

Then of course we get into the endless number of unique patterns forged by the knife makers, usually JS or MS's, and I have to agree with Keith, Wolfstooth by Fisk is a favorite. Steve Dunn MS makes some nice damascus too, as does Bradshaw, Tom Ferry makes some amazing damascus and of course Timascus. Cliff Parker and Don Hanson make some unique stuff and of course Gustaffson and Pearson make some amazing blued damascus.

Burkstar, that's a nice pattern--is it that subtle in person or is it the photo?

Megalobyte--is that ladder in your avatar?

I did some serching and reptilian does indeed look good with snakewood, but Chuck, any pics of the crazy lacy you referred to? Can't find anything on it.

Fiveohh--is that spirograph blued?

Reptillian and Basket Weave are my favorites. Couldn't find any pictures of Basket Weave though.
