the best have to be the Pie Irons

you can make simple dessert pies with bread and jelly/jam, hamburgers, french toast, grilled cheese sandwiches, hot dogs, waffles,etc.....

But cooking a whole chicken on a spit, fish on a plank of wood, shish kebob are cool as well

what are yours

Don't forget pie iron pizza. Pre cook the meats, put the ingrediants in bowls and let everyone make their own favorite.

We did it on a coleman stove but it could be done on a campfire. GF cooked it so let's see if I can give you a quick rundown of what I can remember.

Duck breast with duck fat fried tators.
Get a duck breast with fat and skin still on. Slice the fat in diagnols like a double cut file and season with salt and pepper or whatever your favorite spice. Cook the duck, fat side down for(dunno how long sorry). Drain fat into vessel, then flip breast and cook the rest of the way. Take duck out of pan and cover with tin foil and let it "rest." Then take your duck fat and pre-sliced tators and fry them up. Plate the tators and duck and enjoy. This whole thing can be done with a pan, cup, and a plate for each individual. Best roughing it meal I ever had.

Chicken fajitas! They're easy and nothing smells or tastes better after a long day of hiking.

my camping and backpacking tradition for 20+ years.......marinated steak kabobs

buy a sirloin tip or better and cube it, 1 inch for medium, 1.5 inches for rare........no cheap stewing beef
clean margarine container or snap lock(saves mess)
half a dark beer, 2tbl of montreal steak spice, 1/2 tsp onion powder, 1/2 tsp oregano and 1/2 granulated garlic, 2tbl of balsamic/red wine vinegar, tbl hot sauce optional
mix all ingredients in a large bowl then add beef
cover and refrigerate for 4 to 8 hours stirring a couple times
fill container with beef first then add some marinade leaving 3/4 in for freezer expansion and freeze
bring an onion and a couple peppers precut in separate bags
trim and debark some green sticks, skewer and grill 3 to 5 min flip and cook for 4

very easy and delicious, you will impress your friends

I have been known to grill one kabob at a time with many beers till 2am

I usually just make rice with boullion with it

If your backpacking wrap the frozen container in a space blanket tightly then a towel or sweater and in the center of pack away from edge(sun) and your back
unless it is very warm it will keep till the next day or just eat it that night
bring the veggies whole and cut them on the inside of the lid

great kid and adult treat! smore nacho's. take gramcrackers and break um up into triangles or squares. wrap a blackiron skillet in alum foil (easier cleanup). place the grams in the skillet. take snack size broken hersey bars and put um on the broken grams. take mini marshmellows and place on top of the rest of the stuff. add more or less of each per your liking. put on top of coals and cover with a lid. let sit for about ten mins. check often so you dont scortch the grams. cant really mess um up, just dont burn um up. enjoy!
