What's your favorite Polkowski?

I'm sitting here looking at my small collection of Polkowski's and thinking about what is my absolute favorite or which one would I keep if I can only have one. Not easy at all.

I currently am in pocession of the following:

Bulldog
Pug
Scorpion
Companion
Polecat
Back Up Boot

I had a Mongoose (I want it back), Gaunt, CQ Fighter, and a WASP.

I think the overall most versatile is the Polecat. Easy to carry, transistions well to different grips and can do utility work. The Mongoose is the larger version of the Polecat. i don't think it has the same balance, but it is a sentimental favorite. Scorpion is probably the best feeling of them all, great defense/fighter. Of Al's big knives I think the Bulldog is the best. It feels great in the hand, moves well and doesn't "feel" like a big knife.

I suppose if I could have only one for whatever reason, logic would say the Polecat. But logic doesn't always win, so in that case it would be the Scorpion.

I have held some of the new models and some of the other old models. Of the new I've handled, I like the Dingo, Nomad and the Warthog. Of the older models you have to like the Urban Kukri for no other reason than, just because.;)

My favorite of the ones I've had is the Polecat also. The only complaint I have is that it only comes with the IWB sheath. The sheath works great but there are times when a regular outside the pants sheath would be more convenient.
All of Al's knives are sturdy and have that really solid feel. Can't wait to see what he brings to the NY show in 5 weeks.

I've always loved the Polecat. Great design by a master of the craft!

Professor.

I played with the new '8 ball' at the SECKS and really liked it. Felt great in my hand in either grip. The blade length is the only thing that kept me from picking it up since I want to stay at 4" or less.

Sounds like the Polecat is the one to have though!

Another Polecat vote here! Others come close, but the Polecat is still #1.

And as far as IWB sheaths, I never really liked them, so I just make my own Concealex sheaths. I don't think I have actually ever used a Kydex/Concealex sheath that came from any maker or manufacturer, I always make my own.

I've had and sold a Backup and a Stinger. I've had a custom Companion for several years, but it sits in a drawer and I'm thinking of selling it.

I, too, favor the Polecat I have and carry often.

I'm a Polecat fan too! One of the few fixed blades I actually carry. I had Mr. Polkowski make me a SOB sheath for off hand draw.

I've been wanting the Mongoose (Polecat's big brother), but can never find one. I may have to break down and special order one, but I think he has about a 1-2 year waiting list! Darn

Hi Dirk,

I don't own a Polkowski...but I'd sure like to :)

My non-ownership notwithstanding, I did have the opportunity of handling practically every model at Les Robertson's table at the last Canadian Knifemakers Guild show (the next one is in two weeks...can't wait!!! :D ) I DEFINITELY liked the Urban Kukri the best (WOW, what a knife!) and, based on pictures (Les didn't have one :( ) the Kasper Pug...I'd like one of each :)

RL,
What are you waiting for? A price increase?
Al's knives are incredibly good value. Call Les and pick one up, if he's coming to the CKG Show. I'd go for one of his exclusive 440V's.
I love that Scorpion. What a beauty! I wish I could own them all, though.

HJK,

LOL! It's all a matter of time, it's all just a matter of time ;)

I sure hope Les comes again...here's a pic (in case you missed it the last time around) of the Polkowskis at his table (I can email the full size scan in case Imagestation shrinks it)

and here's a closeup of the Urban Kukri with the Crawford KFF (my two favourite knives of the show!)

I will follow your advice and get in touch with Les...will you be at the show as well? (It's in Toronto)

:D
For the first year I'm probably going to miss a CKG Show:(
But that means more Polkowskis for you!:D

RL, definetly contact Les. You'll want to verify his show schedule to make sure he'll be up your way. Also, you'll need to see what he has left. I'm pretty sure he won't be getting anything from Al until the NY show in Nov. If Les doesn't already have an order, he might be able to get what you want from Al at NY.

Urban Kukri....one of these days I'm going to get one. I don't know if I'll carry it, but I am going to get one.
