I'm in an urban/suburban area so I want something that can handle man made materials as well as woods duties. I really like the Ontario 499 pilot survival knife for this purpose. 1095 steel is easy to sharpen, and the heavy solid steel pommel is excellent for hammering. Most importantly for this knife is the small toothed saw back which can be used to cut metal if needed. Low cost makes having multiples no problem. This knife was originally designed to first deal with man made materials, then possible wilderness and lastly defense so it's fits my needs perfectly.
