What's your favorite thing about stripping? Also patinas (pun intended)

I've noticed that stripping the coating off of the blade seems to be very popular, followed closely by doing a patina. What about this mod appeals to those of you who have done it?

I'm not a big fan of the handles, so the number one mod I would do to any Becker is to rehandle them with something that doesn't reek of plastic. But presumably there's a reason for them to put the coating on in the first place. I can see stripping it after it gets damaged. And a stonewashed BK would look pretty great in my book.

I like em Black.
A patina will give it a more natural, well worn look. IMO.

i stripped my brute and mirrored it because i felt the epoxy was getting hung up when splitting/chopping....and it does seem to make a differance.

Im in the middle on this one. Thats why I have a black and a naked one of each ;)

all my beckers 2,7,9 are all stripped except my wifes 2 she doesnt use it that much to care. i mainly like the smoothness of it while batoning it seems the not snag as much on the wood. put with a nice natural/forced patina it make it look unique to a degree but very used/worn black finish looks awesome also, and i also like having to maintain it it keeps me busy.

I like the patina...... but need to wear out the black first..... Before stripping........ my Beckers are new... virgins.... barely used.....i am making an effort to break them in.

Stripping is one of those half do half don't. And everyone has their reasons. I stripped my 7 because I felt like it. That's it. The patina on the other hand aids in rust resistance. It essentially pre rusts your knife. Giving it a small layer of protection. But mostly I figure it's a look thing. A quick oil every once in a while is more than enough to keep a blade from rusting, coated or not.

less friction by removing the coating, corrosion resistance by patina-ing it after stripping.

I don't like the half worn off coating look. The only way to keep the coating looking new, is to not use the knife - which is not an option. So off it comes.

After customizing; cutting, grinding, sanding, polishing there isn't much coating left. So, might as well take all the coating off and use some cold blue for rust resistance.
