......knife lube, based on smell? i just cant get over the smooth, lightly spiced scent of Militec-1. Eezox is pretty good too and loctite(even though its not a lube) isnt bad either.

how 'bout you guys?

(and yes, i AM serious.)

Well, it's pretty subjective. I like the smell of BreakFree CLP, but some people can't stand it. WD-40 smells ok to me too. One oil that makes a great knife lube and protectant that doesn't have much of a smell at all is 3 in 1 oil, if you want something with less of a smell.

What kind of loctite are you smelling dude?! I just used the blue one yesterday on some screws and it smelled like hell in a bottle! UGH! :barf: Seriously! I'd compare it to the smell of burning cat hair mixed with perm solution!

As far as an all around good smelling lube, I like Sentry Solutions TUF GLIDE...this stuff really works too! As far as eau de cologne, it's gotta be HOPPE'S # 9. :D

well its not exactly loctite, its called "permatex" and it does the same thing as loctite, only smells good:) but in small print, it says "Manufactured for Permatex by Loctite Corp." so i thought it was the same thing. i guess this is what happens when i assume...

I don't know if the brand makes a difference, but I'm pretty sure the color does. Last time I smelled the red one it wasn't too awful, but the blue is enough to make me gag.

I like the smell of RemOil too! What does Eezox smell like? Does it work good? I think I remember hearing a little about it, but I have never seen any around.

My grandpa was a gunsmith and used to use something that smelled like bananas! I have no idea what it was called though. Hoppe's is a little strong to me, but it reminds me a lot of cleaning guns with my Dad and Grandpa. :)

On the other end of the spectrum, I would probably use "Ballistol" more if it didn't reek so.

That's what I'm currently using. The odor kinda grows on you after a while.tom.

eezox smells like sweet, slightly soapy almonds. :)
i've never tried it as a rust inhibitor, which its supposedly among the best at. As a lube, its pretty good, but i still prefer Militec
