The weather is warming up here in the Northeast. Almost time for one of my passions, fishing. Nothing like being out on a boat, relaxing and having fun flinging some line around. What knife do you guys tote while fishing?

I usually carry one of two SAK's. One ironically, is a Spartan I rescued from my brother's old tackle box. Lot's of wear and tear but I cleaned it up and honed the main blade to razor sharpness. I also carry, the mechanice which I picked up used on ebay. Has a handy set of pliers that while not exactly heavy duty are useful for all sorts of fishing tasks like closing split shot sinkers. I don't know too much bout the blade steel on SAK's but they sure take a keen edge. I also just lost out on ebay for a Puma fish bonker, that neat all metal knife with the steel ball on one end for braining our finny buddies. This one was a real collectors item with the old green/yellow box, definitely too nice to use. Nuff of my babbling, interested in hearing what others use.

I have a Benchmade neck knife clipped to the gortex waders. Last year I won a talonite cuda talon that should be a great carry around water. Rust has been an issue in the past on particularly long and wet outings fly fishing up here.
When gutting and filleting salmon I use a 7" bladed f-dick fillet knife.

I carry a lovely Kershaw fillet knife, can't remember the model. It has a beautiful long and flexible blade, scoop on the end of the handle for gutting fish, lanyard hole and a notch in the blade near the handle. This is on the sharp side, just before it actually gets sharp. I presume this is a hook remover, but am not actually sure, so would appreciate any feedback. All up, its the best fishing knife I ever owned.

Camillus USMC combat knife, Pilot Survival Knife, Cold Steel clip point Paraedge, CRKT M16-03Z, CRKT Mirage. Just depends on what I feel like carrying.

I'm carrying a Lone Wolf City Knife slipjoint for trout. All you really need for trout is a thin pointy blade, and the City Knife fits the bill very well. Wharncliffe slipjoints are every trout fishermen's friend.

Once I get to fishing for bigger stuff like walleye, pike and black bass, my Spyderco Military will be doing the work. The Military is an exceptional folder for cleaning large freshwater fish. No amount of fish slime will cause those rough textured G-10 grips to slip, and the blade shape is outstanding for zipping open a large scaley belly, and then sawing through the backbone to remove the head. The Military is also very easy to clean, which is a big plus for a fishing knife.

Murray St. Amour custom.

(I actually bought this at a CKG show a few years ago on behalf of a friend to be given to her husband as a birthday gift. She then decided he wasn't worth it - and I was "forced" to keep the knife for myself! ;) )

I'm convinced that this answer could be cut & pasted into just about *any* post that has a subject line that reads, "list your favorite knife for...[insert any task here] "

Well I tend to carry three knives for fishing.
My trusty SAK.....Wenger Adventurer with packlock
Leatherman Wave on my belt.
And the best fillet knife for my money...CRKT'S Big Eddy.
