I did a quick search and I didn't see a thread titled this, but there probably is one I'm sure but I still want to know,

What's everyone's grail knife? Also, how do you define "Grail knife"? I know everyone's answer is different obviously but I'll start,

My very first "grail knife" was, believe it or not, a Vic Farmer. I thought they were so cool but I never bought one when they first came out cause I was just too lazy. Then I got one after I had surgery as a little present to myself. Yea, it ain't fancy but I thought it was cool.

Then it was the Benchmadw Griptillian. Well, for my birthday last year, my girlfriend surprised me with one.

Then my grail knife was any emerson I could get my hands on. Now I have one in the mail.

Now, currently, my grail knife is an Emerson Mini CQC-15 with OD micarta scales(not a huge fan of g-10, I know I'll probably have to go aftermarket for the scales)

And if(more like when) I get that, I'll move onto another. From my perspective, there is no grail knife, only A LOT of grail knives.

So, what are your grail knives?

It is actually going to be at my house tomorrow. A CRK Mnandi with Damascus blade and snakewood inlays. Too bad I won't be able to fondle it until the weekend.

I like the custom work that Todd Rexford is doing. His "hot hammered" titanium finish is really interesting. The price is out of my "practical" reach, but luckily his collaborations with Kershaw (Injection) and ZT (0801 & 0808) give me a little taste. :)

My idea of a grail seems to change pretty rapidly...not sure that I have one in mind.

The problem with quests is that once you find and secure your Grail , it then turns from a Grail into a Prize and a new quest is required .

My grail knife, at least for the last six months or so, is a custom kukri from Himalayan Imports. There are a number of designs and special features that are rarely, if ever, offered together, so one day I'll have to put in a special order.

An original 1920s 30s era case tested canoe with stag in nice condition. Dont have to be mint but just decent and I would be happy with that for awhile.

[SUB][/SUB]Shirogorov custom divison Hati...( A far away dream)
Shirogorov Hati...( My obtainable grail)

For me, a grail knife can be one of many things.

Some knives are so scarce and so loved by their owners for their quality & beauty that they rarely if ever are sold off. For those that wish to purchase these knives - they may never get the chance to buy one. These are knives that people make offers for tens of thousands of dollars higher than the original price. And every time, the owners of these knives give a firm "No."

Other knives are pieces of history or have an unusual story that makes them have great sentimental value to those interested in such things. Trends come and go, tastes change, but you can't take away a knife's story or its relevance to knife history.

An example of each, two that I would consider grails to me:

I already have mine, a small 21 cf inlay, but I suppose I would be lying if I said I didn't want to buy a rockstead Hizen at some point;)

One of those would definately be what I would consider a Grail knife.

Let's see......

Damn cool........check!
Out of reach.....check!

Here's a Higo, which is essentially the larger version, in what may just be the single most sensuous and incredible knife porno ever to be uploaded to YouTube:D:thumbup:

No seriously, prepare yourself......

I've been searching for a Tim Galyean small pro series Junkyard Dog for a long time. I finally found one. It's nothing short of perfection. But now I don't want to carry it. It's too rare and irreplaceable for me to risk something happening to it by carrying it with me daily.

I've never approached the "knife problem" from the concept that there is "one to rule them all."

I want the best that I can afford, at that time. I'm happy with what I have now, enough that I've stopped buying unless I find a smoking deal on something I like.

Tim Britton teardrop jack, mammoth ivory scales.
I have yearned for one for years, can never seem to
get the $ together. Doesn't help that the blade show is
typically the weekend of my wife's bday.

I feel like the term "Grail knife" is misused too much.

Grail; "a thing that is being earnestly pursued or sought after."

A grail knife is not what you want next, it's something more special than that. You have to search for your Grail and refine your taste enough to know that said knife will truly be your Grail. If you just consider every knife you "want" to be a Grail, then you're not understanding the essence of searching for your Grail.

Personally, I don't have one Grail, I just have a list of knives on my priority list. I happened to find one on my list this past week, and I've been searching for it for about 6 months to a year. I know when I get it, it will be something extremely special since I really covet the maker, and I've been trying to find one for a long time.

To me, that's what a Grail is about. If I were able to go buy this knife at the drop of a hat, it wouldn't be so special.

What you makin on that Ardiuno board??? I built a 6x6x6 LED light cube with an Ardiuno one time. That thing was awesome!

My grail would have to be an Ontario Bagwell Bowie.
Im quite partial to Ontario blades.

My grail is a bodega I have wanted one for so long, previously it was a DOC not that they are super rare but I wanted a specific one I have it now and even the days I don't carry it I stop and look at it on the rack.

Actually, lemme change my answer. My absolute complete end all grail is a Gavko Mako. I don't know why I forgot about it.. I've been lusting after one since I saw one on Instagram. Then my fixed blade grail is either a Randall Model 18 with sawback, or a Turley Jet Pilots Knife.

this one,
circa 1984 vintage Michael Walker
I can't stop showing it off! lol :-)
