What's your opinion of the new production EK kinves?

I went back to review a bunch of the older threads on EK. Seems like when they were sold and bought by Blackjack knives and relocated to Virginia there was a drop in quality. Looking at their web site the photos look pretty nice. Has anyone bought or inspected a recent production model, and if so what is the quality like these days? It seems to be one of the simpler designs out there, so it's kind of a mystery how they could screw it up badly.

The beautiful leather sheaths that are pictured on some of the vintage ones are obviously a thing of the past, but that's somewhat of an industry wide phenomena.

Here is the web site section that pictures the knives.

The caption from their site:
The Micarta-gripped knives. Shown from top to bottom, M1 (top), M2, M3, M4 and the Micarta Bowie, M5 (bottom). Each features the wide Gripping Grooves™ and satin-finished blades.

What's odd is that pretty clearly the M5 at the bottom is polished and not bead blasted.

The knives from Effingham were of low quality, imho. The new production in Virginia, not too far from their old place in Virginia, is spot on. I'm friends with Bob (Buerlein) and he has done all kinds of favors for me regarding my Ek Knives. I currently have models #3/4/5 & 6. They vary from micarta to cord wrap and I even have a 1/1 Model 5 that he made special for me with gray 550 wrap and sharpened swedge. You can also (still) get them with leather sheathes...you just need to special order them. Some people are buying them and passing them off on the bay as authentic:mad: nos sheathes...

1Shot is spot on. I have a moderate collection of early Richmond knives and have handled some of the new ones as well. Todays knives are excellent. Treat yourself to nice you won't be disappointed.
