What's your ... OWN/USE...ratio?

I use them all.

I have about 18 knives and I use (or have used) every single one of them.

I don't buy knives to sit there and look pretty :)

So my ratio is 18/18 or 100% :D

Currently its probalbly like 50/4 because although i have used almost all the knives for something.:D

25/15.

Two that never get used are grandpas old carry knives.

Of the others I have, ther are about six folders that rotate as EDC's. Four are fixed blade camp/hunt knives that I also use for yard work and ocasionally in the kitchen. I have two that are real beaters for cutting stuff like skate board tape for my sons board. Two are multi-tools but I include them in the knife numbers. My wife carries (actually stole from me) my Dragonfly ;).

I try to use the others once in a while just to justify owning them.

Rupestris, you use more than you have????

Better qualify the post. Don't count the ones you HAVE used but don't anymore. I'm talking REGULAR...user.

:)

Oops. Fixed :p

I will only go over the knives I own that I still respect:

BRKT Gameskeeper Green Fern Fibermascus=Hunting knife/50% hiking primary
BRKT Gameskeeper Olivewood=Light use, whittling and camp knife. Sort of belongs to my wife.
BRKT Gameskeeper Curly Maple=Safe queen held in trust for my five year old son.
BRKT Mini-Canadian Green Fern=Dual rigged to the first Gameskeeper.
BM806D2 Axis=EDC primary
BM806D2 Axis=Older purchase, Jeep center console for easy access.
Ka-Bar 1271=General household beater.
Ka-Bar 7" traditional "Navy" stamped=sleeps under the mattress.
Vic Spartanlite=EDC secondary
LM Wave=Jeep based multi-tool
Vic Swisstool=Minivan based multi
LM Surge=Home based multi-tool, used most weekends for something around the house.
BM folding filet knife=Tackle box
Spyderco Pacific Salt=EDC on or near salt water.
Ontario RTAK=Heavy user controlling vegetation around the house. Goes off trail too. Strapped to the bug out bag most of the time.
Ontario RAT 5=Making its way into being my hiking knife.
Jarvenpaa 10cm puukko/leuko combo rig=occasional outdoors use for curiousity's sake (I prefer the "American style" bushcraft knives to the scandi concept, though the pukko is great with heavy gloves on.)
Buck 110=Held for sentimental reasons only. Rarely used.
Vic Swiss Champ=First Christmas present from the missus--safe queen.
Vic slide lock Hunter=Tool box knife.
Case XX carbon steel honey bone wharncliffe whittler prototype=EDC in slacks.

Looks like 20 users and two safe queens.

I'm not sure how many knives I own (around 3 dozen I guess) but I use them all - except for my Spyderco Salsa. The bolts fell out of the Salsa and I've never been able to find replacements, so it's been on the injured reserved list for a couple of years.

I use every single one of my knives. I only have two exceptions:

-It's a POS. Chinese made 1$ folders for instance. I only use these for jobs that WILL destroy the blade edge because I couldn't give a damn what happens to em.

-I'm going to trade them. Even knives I know I'm going to trade I'll still use, I'm just a bit more restrictive with what I do with them so as to not damage them and decrease their value.

Otherwise, 100% of what I own is a user and always will be until it's too damaged to be used safely. To hell with safe queens.

Me too! I have used every knife I own at least once, including Randalls and customs. I make it a point to use them when I get them so I have incentive to keep them.

I think I got around 34 at the moment (but I'm missing some in the count, I think)

Regular work carry are Fallkniven U2 and Ritter M2 Mini-Grip.

Regular carry is also split, BM710HS or Spyderco Military.

Kitchen use is Boye DBS folder and BM 140HSSR, with a Kukri for larger cutting needs.

I've never connected with the collector mentality. To me the most joy a knife can offer me comes from using it. I wouldn't have the appreciation I do for the grinds on a Mora if I didn't go out and whittle some spears with it. I wouldn't have the appreciation I do for the ergonomics of a Manix while using it to chop or do other strenuous cutting.

I'm pretty close to 100%. There are a couple of old POS knives that I don't even consider part of my collection so they don't count. I really need to get rid of them, but can't bring myself to give them to someone. Not that I'd miss them, but I can't, in good conscience, allow anyone to use the awful things.

I don't own any safe queens. Even my most prized knives get used on occasion, even if it's just carried to church on Sunday.

If you are a collector then just having knives in your collection is using them as you intended. Therefore, I use all of mine.

Ten out of twelve, the only knives I don’t use for EDC are my Cricket and Civilian. I lost the pivot for my Cricket and the Civi is only for special events like Christmas and weddings.

Exactly the same as Daniel up there. I've got a couple old POS knives, probably about 3 or 4, sitting in a box that I haven't either thrown out or given away yet, other than that I use all of the ones I own,so about ummm 48? out of 52 . Mostly pretty decent, and some dogs that still perform well enough for what I use them for, but they all get used.

Excellent!

(I don't own any knives. I DO own several hundred small pieces of art that just happen to be in the shape of knives and I use about a dozen of those on a regular basis. Danged if they don't work real good that way too! ;) )
