Well here I am, a few years later, and I am still working on my perfect set up. I still can't figure if I want the "One big blade and one small blade" combo or the "Small, medium, large" combo. Of course my xl is the AK but that's not part of this equation for me. Its a must have. :D

This, of course, has been discussed many times on BF, but with all the recent Busse releases and variations perhaps your line up has changed as well.

When I look at my usage it would be for light camping and yard chores and then, god forbid, survival situations in the urban Los Angeles setting. I have to think about all the realistic uses I would have or need for my knives and how much I want to carry around.

What do you guys see as your most desirable combo or set up and why? Under what conditions?

Just have fun with this one as we get ready for the release of the FSFNO! :p:D:thumbup:

About 80 knives, from small to holy oinkin yowza! Some polished and convexed for chopping, some toothy for EDC, and some just for looking at! :D

Bummin' around the city its been a muddy AD in pocket or belt. Hiking or camping the BATAC + saw takes it.

Been know to IWB whatever is near at hand when leaving the house though... just in case.
You get great looks from people (friends) pulling a 10" blade from under your jacket :)

19 hrs till BladeWest!

My Eu-17 Magnum fills my big blade role.

I will have a Rat Trap soon to see if it will take my small knife role.

I have been using my "Great Ash" for small knife chores but in CA, it's illegal to carry concealed while a folder is OK, the Rat Trap may win on a legality.

I really like the Satin and tiger collection I am putting together. Then there's the desert tan stuff and whoa Nelly the sage   That's a whole nother story. I think my plan is to have a bunch of everything  ;) Yeah that's it :D Here is my lastest little sage beauty!

I like to EDC a fixed blade under my suit coat, jacket or shirt. Of late, I've carried Daniel Koster's Karda 3 in his Kydex sheath.

For chopping chores, I have a number of kukris from HI and Tora.

I have more in between knives than I'll ever use, but my favorite at the moment is a Swamp Rat Ratmandu. It seems perfect for camping or hiking.

I like my SFNO and Custom Tomahawk with a long thick handle, or my SHBM with a AD or GW riding along.....I got the AK and it just didn't do it for me :p I had a blast destroying things with yours when we met up, but I can't think of any situation where I'd bring it anywhere with me.....I also need to factor my ASH-1 into the rotation :p...I keep putting off on getting a sheath. The users I've got are a couple hawks, couple machetes, a SHBM, a Warden, a AD, and a SFNO. I also have a huge axe that I don't know the make of, found it at a garage sale...looks really old but it's still kickin er...choppin'. I really want a B9 and a SHSH to add to that list :D

Satin n tiger eh? Sweet.

Oh, for folders I've got a folding sword ;), a Small Sebenza, a Large Sebenza (both classic BG-42 small/S30V Large), a Benchmade Ruckus, a Griptillian, a 110, a Case Trapper, a Case Peanut and a SAK. They all fit in somewhere nicely...I was just using the CSFS (Cold Steel Folding Sword) to cut up a mini watermelon at work the other day :D.

I think that if you are in a city and things go bad you would want a knife strong enough to pry open doors with and quick enough to use in self defense.... should you be separated from your pump shot gun. So I think the new Badger would work well or a SJ Tac.

I'd keep a CG FBM around in case I had to chop anything, but I wouldn't want to have to deal with carrying it with me.

My Mud Razor and leatherman are a must have in all situations. Depending on what I am doing, I may add one or more of the following, a GW(or BRK&T Fox River or Fallkniven F1), A battle Rat, camp ax or machete

Almost forgot..... AK if the zombies attack..

Police are kinda funny about knives from jurisdiction to jurisdiction in eastern Pennsylvania; here I have townships, and can expect to pass though at least 3-4 on any given drive over 15 miles... So I a.) try to keep carried knives with blades under the span of an average hand palm, about 3-4 inches long, and b.) carry only 2 to 3 at a time. The law here is vague, and no 2 officers, sheriffs, and/or troopers have ever defined Pennsylvania's laws concerning knives to me the same way twice out of all I've asked since being a teen, but all I've seen, when dealing with someones knife seem to immediately measure it against the width of their palm. LOL
The only consistent fact is that you need a CCW to carry ANY "weapon" concealed so I don't push it, knowing that most police count knives as being in the "weapons" category. Also, if someone objects to your knife carried in the open and calls the police, you are "disturbing the peace", which in addition to fining you at the least, it also allows them under the law to confiscate the knife... Bummer, but them's the rules, and around here & closer to the city, most people are pretty much what we would consider "sheeple".

When I'm around the house, I'm liking the "Silverback" black/ tiger AD that I modded slightly, in a Okuden belt sheath, crossdraw. The Biggies are always nearby. When out, I always carry a Hinderer XM-18 everywhere, and a Fireman's SAK, The same AD stays in the glovebox. On crappy weather days, or if I know that I'll have a possibility to use it, #27 HOGFSHLE will ride in the back. Now with a great new edge and penetrator tip, it's big enough, thick enough, yet agile enough for most anything. It's got a nice skullcrusher too, as ya know. It's as much as I feel necessary for both a cutting tool OR a crowbar that I'll most likely ever need and can be rather intimidating to face, if you are on the offensive. :D

EDITED to ADD: It's not a knife, but... I always carry a Surefire U2 flashlight along with these knives. That li'l thing is the shiznit!

...But next week is another week, and ya never know...! :D:D

For me this week, probably goes to the following:
- FBM LE w/ MickeyMoto sheath
- ASH-1 Custom from the BloodBath (needs a sheath)
- SMOG SE GW w/ Leatherman sheath

Choppin', Campin' and Slicin'... :)

Taken from here:
TITLE 18--CRIMES AND CRIMINAL PROCEDURE
PART I--CRIMES CHAPTER 44--FIREARMS
Sec. 930. Possession of firearms and dangerous weapons in Federal facilities

We find the following:

(2) The term ``dangerous weapon'' means a weapon, device, instrument, material, or substance, animate or inanimate, that is used for, or is readily capable of, causing death or serious bodily injury, except that such term does not include a pocket knife with a blade of less than 2\1/2\ inches in length.

I always keep this in the back of my mind when dealing with the vagaries of local rules.

Wow! That even rules out the XM-18! ...AND the Fireman's SAK! Guess I should find something smaller... LOL

Thanks for this info, good to know.

For outdoors, my most frequent combo is the big (SFNO) and small (usually a RAT3) and a folder (usually Strider SnG or maybe PT).

I thought my new ASH1 bloodbathaganzaa might take the place of the SFNO, but the scales are too thick for it to be my new favorite. If I can ever lay hands on one I think an SHSHII might do it though.

For a smaller knife I want a straight handle and a thinner blade. Maybe an ABA or the future Bussecraft knife will do the trick, but for now its the simple RAT3.
