YOU carry your daily gear in...backpack, daypack, lumbarpack, fannypack, shoulder bag, purse, ETC?
What's your preferred bag and why?

I think a back pack is the most efficient method of carry. especially for long distances. I have a mountainsmith 1700-2000 cubes day pack.

I keep my leatherman, mini-mag, first aide kit and some other goodies. bring it everywhere I go except running errands around town.

My daily carry gear is all pocketable. Anything else is either in my BOB or I have available a small Eagle Creek fanny pack to strap on.

Everything is always in my pockets and on my belt. I weiged it all yesterday and it was 5 pounds. I have lots of other stuff in my vehicle, but after a lifetime of pocket carry, I seldom need to change what's in my pockets. It is actually fun to engineer my stuff so that I have it all, all the time.

I am doing a Masters at the University here so Back packs are pretty much my EDC. Well, actually they were. I gave my girlfriend my North Face pack (30Lish pack, some 1800ci) as I was going to be getting an Eagle AAP. But that has been put on hold until next semester. For now I have an Eddie Bauer bag... you know one of those attache kind of bags? Well, that goe sover one shoulder and my lap top w/ case goes over the other! My laptop plus EDC gear will all fit in the Eagle pack. I can't wait to get that pack...

Crayola,
Just out of curiosity, whatcha studying?
Gatekeeper, I too am a pockets person for daily carry. Most of the things I think I'll need at night are usually in my dashboard since that's about the only time I drive to school.

I carry almost everything in an Eagle Creek shoulder bag. Yes, you could call it a purse.

The small, zippered flap pouch holds:
-keys
-butane lighter
-small utility lockback
-amber photon
-small container of ibuprophen and antacid
-toothpick

The pocket under this holds:
-delica (or other favorite back-back-up)
-3 x 5 note cards
-comb
-miscellaneous documents and receipts

The long zippered pouch holds:
-NAA or Beretta 32 or SIG or Walther 380

The pen slots hold a cheap ballpoint and mech pencil pair

The main compartment holds:
-leatherman sideclip
-cell phone
-wallet
-palm pilot
-reading glasses

This leaves my pockets free for folders. In a panic situation, I can just smash the badguys on the head with it.

If I go camping all my emergency gear is in my pockets and a gear I use often is on my belt my backpack just has my slipping bag and more food (my BOB is on my belt that includes 3 days rations). When I am in the city I carry a large daypack and the contains of it change depending on where I am going that day but I always carry:

First aid kit

AM/FM radio

An extra t-shirt and shorts / pants and jacket

Some food

All my cutlery is in my pockets and if I am wearing cargo pants the first aid kit and the radio go in to my pockets to.

Bear,

One nice thing about the Eagle Creek packs is that most or all of them have a slip-in pocket on the back side next to your body. Some folks put the pistol in that back pocket and add a small patch of velcro to keep the top pulled together on each end... about a one inch patch on each end of the pocket. That leaves the center open to slip your hand into. The pistol can be placed with the grip up and barell down for stability. The speed of the draw, with the folks I've seen use it, is FAST.
