I just received my GEC Northfield Improved Trapper (#48)
today. It is in African Blackwood with a wharncliffe blade. It is one of the nicest traditional slip joints I own to date. Flawless.
What are all of your thoughts on this knife?

Would show a photo, but can't from my phone.

I have the regular/standard #48 Trapper in cocobolo and LOVE IT! It's beautiful and one of my top favorites and most carried. It feels great in hand and the full-length twin blades are really nice to have.

I originally purchased one of the improved trappers in Natural Stag, and love it.

Later, when Mike offered his SFO #48 in Blackwood, I was all over it on day one. I have carried it daily ever since, along with my longtime favorite #53 stockman/cattle knife in genuine stag. I have a feeling this trend is going to continue for the foreseeable future.

That little SFO has already cut more apples than any other two knives I own combined, it's an awesome little slicer ;)

I bought one of the SFO from collectorknives.net and it arrived a few days ago. It's gorgeous. The pins are flush. The pull isn't too strong. Nice walk and talk. The only minor complaint I could make is with initial sharpness, but that was fixed in a couple minutes so it's no longer an issue. This one is definitely a keeper!

I got one in natural stag and it too is one of the nicest knives I own. The stag has an ivory-like character to the smooth parts
which really sets off the darker, textured areas.

I think the #48 in all of its incarnations is one of GECs best patterns. I have two - the regular trapper in 440C, and the Improved Trapper with the wharncliffe in 1095. Nice slim carry with very functional blade shapes. Pull is lighter than some of their famous nailbreakers, and the lines are very classic looking. If I had not *just* picked up the Improved Trapper, I would have also liked the Diamond Jack on that same frame when it came out.

Totally agree, 'cept I have a few more than 2 :)

I do suggest getting one of the jacks though unless you need a second full length blade.

I got my 48 Improved Trapper in AB from my girlfriend this past Christmas and it is also an incredible example of perfect fit and finish. Tightest construction and jet black AB.
The wharncliffe secondary is also super thin and so sharp.
By far one of my nicest GEC'S to date. The cloud shield just jumps next to the AB.

Terrible picture but the #48 SFO in African Blackwood is gorgeous. Such a nice carry size too! Along with it are a Victorinox Tourist, GEC #85 EZ Open in natural stag, #15 Radio knife in Gabon ebony. To the right is a Queen mini trapper in ACSB and a Canal Street moonpie trapper in jigged bone.
