Okay... finally got a new computer to run my digicam... and after numerous attempts to display here... Here goes...

Nick Wheeler and his award winning Bowie...

and since I can only attach one atta time... bear with me...

Here's a pic of Nick at the Spring Eugene show and the bare blade: it was supposed to be ready for the OKCA show, but it wasn't meant to be... However, I knew it existed... and was it sweet in the raw state!

Not that I like Nick's knives or anything, but that is one sweet bowie! ;) :)

That hamon is especially nice.

Okay... for a little story... When I walked up to Nick's table, my bowie wasn't there... but this other incredibly sweet little persoanl size bowie was... Yup... You got it! I couldn't resist!

Little Bro and Big Bro...

and freakishly lightweight! That's no chopper, I held it & it practically floats! Beautiful, too.

Hopefully, Nick will weigh in with the particulars... especially the little one, as he's got a small story behind that... as do I...

But both are examples of a craftsman who goes the distance to turn out a work of functional art!

And I am simply honored to hold on to them for awhile and enjoy their simple elegance... :D

Thanks for all the kind words folks!

I noticed the handles look narrower than the ricasso in these pics...THEY'RE NOT! :D Sorry, but that's one of my biggest peaves is the handle not flowing into the blade and vice versa.

The big knife was shown here before in a Point7 photo.

The smaller one is a san-mai damascus piece. The core is 1084, while the sides are welded up triangles from an accordian cut jelly roll billet. They contain 1084/15N20/Pure Nickel.

The guard is 416, and the handle is a beautiful piece of African Blackwood with burl and eyes in the palm swell of the handle.

It's a very similar blade shape to the big one, just a 5.5" (or so" blade.

Thanks again :D
Nick

There comes a time when a maker needs to build a new room in the house - just for awards !! Congrats Nick, beaut work as usual. I've never even seen African Blackwood with burls in it. Jason.
