When are forced patina finishes ok.

I don't know much about forced patina finishes other than that they look good and they help protect carbon steel. So would I be crazy to force a patina on the leading edge of my gransfors bruks hatchet? Tell me if I'm crazy, or if this is a good idea. And if anyone has done it please post a pic. I know the hatchet question isn't a knife but this is more about forced patinas and when they are fitting more than anything.
