When can a person get their hands on a mini CQC7?

I like the pics I've seen. Is the tanto blade the only model?

When and where can I get one?

Good luck. If my memory serves, the mini-CQC7s were a custom Ernie-made knife. Since he isn't making new custom knives anymore (and the wait for existing orders is a minimum of 4 years or so), you'll have to go aftermarket. That's a good/bad situation. Good, because you MAY find one for sale/trade. Bad, because the sale prices are roughly double to triple what Ernie charged new (for example, a CQC6 directly from Ernie was ± $500, the aftermarket price for the same knife is ±$1,400). I don't know if he's going to make a production version of the mini, but you could get a "normal" sized CQC7 (production model) from Emerson Knives for ±$150. And, yes, as far as I know the tanto blade was all that was offered with the customs.

The mini 7s are a new production model that should be available early in 2001. Ernie had a few with him at the NY show in November and despite all the begging and pleading that the assembled multitudes could muster, only our very own, usual suspect, par excellence, David T. was successful in acquiring one. Check the posts for early to mid November and there will be pictures and a whole discussion about them, together with a discussion of his techniques.

It had to be pathetic to see one of the "usual suspects" do the whining, sniveling, crying, even begging, while shedding copious tears. . . . . possibly even threatening some type of hideous blackmail to get one of those babies!

Come to think of it. . . I'd have done it in a New York Minute!

It was my excellent negotiating skills which won me the mini 7. I just smooth talked him into giving me one. OK, truth is I cried like a little girl & held my breath until he gave me one. All kidding aside, show ended around 3:00PM Sunday. Went back to his table around 2:55PM and simply asked very, very nicely for one. Mary told me to tell everyone that if anyone asked how I got one I should say that I just grabbed the knife & ran away as fast as I could. So maybe I should just stick to that story.

Ah yeah, that's what happened. He's still looking for me.

Yes, he did have other blade shapes in the mini. Not just the tanto shaped blade.

Can't spell today.

Is there a custom version of the Mini CQC7? How does the mini CQC7 compare in size with the CQC5?

AC_23,

The mini 7 is indeed going to be a new production model and what I would suggest to you in regards to your other query about a daily carry knife.

The knife is about the size of a CQC-5 and will be available in a spearpoint configuration. We should have the first ones done sometime in the middle to end of January and will be available through the company store as well as ouor dealer network. I think that they will retail at $135 or so.

OK. This proves I don't know what the hell I'm talking about. Thanks for tolerating my idiocy, everyone!
