When did BK-9 start shipping with new sheath?

I received a new BK-9 this week (great shipping and service from NewGrahamKnives, btw). When I opened the box I expected the nylon sheath with kydex insert, but found an all-Kydex black riveted sheath instead. In a way, I prefer the new sheath to the nylon version.

Anyone know why the change occured?

Wait, the -9 now ships with plain black kydex? What about the cool leatherman/ sharpener pocket? Why the change? Is the old sheath still available?

The new sheath. No markings on it whatsoever. Came with the quick-release buckle/leg tie, and has a horizontal plastic retainer which floats freely in the nylon belt loop--no idea what it's for. A snap button retains the knife. The BK-9 fits firmly, without any appreciable wear so far with multiple sheathings. It does, however, rattle a teeny bit:

The cut edges around the Kydex is a bit rough....Not as poorly made as, say, Entrek sheaths, but nowhere near the quality of Dozier's work. Serviceable for sure, and as I said earlier, I like it better than the military-style nylon OD sheath.

That's there in-case you want to lash it to, or carry it, via a webbing strap, such as on an Alice-pack, or a pack board.

I just recieved a BK-9 today from 1SKS and it came with the nylon sheath. Would much rather have the kydex. Damn.

Talos,

You benefited, by what appears to be, a BK1 sheath being packed with your knife instead of a BK7 sheath. The OD Green sheath is still standard with BK7's.

CamillusColClub,
I think your post was meant for agony. I apparently recieved the correct sheath.
Maybe a kydex option for the BK-9...?

So, this kydex sheath is intended for the BK-1? How then does the BK-9 fit?
Forgive my ignorance...I'm still a budding knifenut!
:)

agony,
I went to their website and the BK-1 is only 1/2" longer than the BK-9. It seems they are both similar enough in size to allow it to fit.
Since the sheath is apparently compatible with both knives it would be cool if BK&T would offer it as an option to the nylon sheath that ships with the BK-9.
