When Did BK/KB Change the Knife Specs?

I was at a local 5.11 store that caries a few KB/BK fixed and folders, and noticed the fixed blades except for one are now coming with the rough epoxy like finish very similar to ESEE knives. When did this change occur, and why, and will this lead to, perhaps, some colors added to the lineup, much like (again) ESEE knives?

This is the first year for it. Also, they don't have to roll stamp them anymore, since they have a laser engraver. I doubt there will be color changes, but one never knows.

Thank you Warrior...I kinda' thought it was recent. I do prefer this new finish, as well as the laser etching of the logo/markings, and it reminds me of an internet knife shop stating up front that they carry different Becker/KB generations of each knife, and to call first before ordering so that the customer will get exactly what he wants. Now, if we could just get a D2 Stainless version of the BK-11 and 14...

My BK-24 almost never leaves my side or front pocket. It's definitely a must have for anybody that wants to edc a small fixed blade. I can't think of a single competitor that offers anything close to the 24 for less than double the price.

Yes, it does seem the Becker series are outstanding values. While I really like my ESEE-3, and bought an Izula as a consequence of wanting a smaller fixed blade, I have to admit, had I seen the Izula side by side with the BK-11 or BK-14 with the new finish, I would have bought the BK first, and quite possibly not have purchased the Izula. This is not a negative for ESEE products, it's just the BK's are, IMO, equals in workmanship, finish, and overall usability with their equivalent ESEE counterparts; and less expensive as well. Lastly, I really really like the BK-11,14,24 sheaths that come with these blades, and do not care for that micro-bikini sheath that came with the Izula.

I'm a fan of Godspeeds sheath for the 11/14/24. It's a damn fine one.

Alna, no worries pretty much all of us here have Esee and Becker blades. Today I'm actually carrying one of each. :D

I agree, they have what I consider the best custom kydex sheaths on the market. I have been procastrinating lately, but I will get around to ordering from them an ESEE-3 sheath with a fire starter attachment, and with the ability to attach the ESEE accessory pocket.

I have a 3 sheath (taco) and a LS sheath from Eli that I won. He never disappoints!

I need to get a nice sheath from him for my BK-7. Next time I get paid.
