When did BM begin to print the model number under the logo?

Huh, i never noticed that. Just looked at my two grips and yup, there is a 550 and a 558 there. Interesting.

Ya, Swoop,
I bought my first benchies in 1996, and they did not print the model number under the logo then. And years went by and my attention was turned toward guns and competition shooting, and I got into knives again a couple of years back, and it's just something I noticed.

It is an interesting question, I have owned many 42's and noticed the same thing, the earlier ones didn't have the blade steel on them either, later ones do. It would be nice if BM would weigh in on this topic, or I guess I could email my "inside source", they might know

I also agree with 2000/2001 as the starting date; and would now complain about the assigned numbers starting with the 'Volli' at 10000001. How the heck are we supposed to deal with those numbers when we all know what a 910 is...? I will ask the jury to decide on this ruling...
