When did EKI stop using scale screws?

Hey guys!

I'm looking at a 2012 commander that has the three screws down the center of the scale, old school style. I was under the impression that they switched to the current style ofconstruction a LONG time ago, like 2000 or so...

Anyways, I'm clearly ignorant here, so can someone plz educate me on EKI (specially Commander) construction history?

Thx!!

Going from memory didn’t the screws do the middle stop in 99 or 2001? Either way, I don’t think a 2012 factory spec should have that.

Exactly what I thought...

Yet this thing appears to be the real deal. Maybe someone managed to put a 2012 blade in an older handle.

Man I want it tho!

I think I know which post you're talking about, which ended on the 15th. There were a lot of things that didn't look right about it to me, so I think it's a clone. Torq handle screws, wrong font on markings (looks like it has serifs which real ones don't), serrations are cut poorly, poor fit around the thumb disk, and how the finish is wearing off... The pictures were pretty blurry though, so I definitely could be wrong tho :)

On occasion, Emerson sometimes finds a box of old knife parts and sell them as a very limited release. I remember a run of vintage commanders and specwars. But I don't think this is one of those.

You are correct. And I also had all those same thoughts. I went with the idea that it's a fake, just to be safe.

Thx.

They did stop the center screws after 2000. If it is a 2012 marked blade do you have any pics? Maybe it is modded?

There is a new one with these screws "20 Year Vintage Commander" Limited Edition release.

Snap decision to sooth my recent separation anxiety - last one of these Emerson had is on the way:
